Freckled Duck are now said to be part of the swan family (a primitive form of swan) and they are an endangered species because they are "out of date" evolutionary speaking. And during drought, their number decline because of drought and not because of hunters. Hunters go out of their way not shoot them. They are not common in Victoria because that's not their preferred habitat. They can be found in very large numbers on their preferred habitat.
