Hi there,

Is anyone here in Mensa and London ? Some say there is a higher proportion of people with AS in Mensa than in the general population.
Any idea why ?

Hypothesis 1: AS are smarter than the rest of the population ;-)
Hypothesis 2: There is a bias at Mensa: only a certain type of smart people sign up there ... any idea why ?

I'm a lapsed member from NI who vists London for a week or so each summer and I've been to a few Mensa meetings in London in years gone by. As for the other question, whilst Mensa as an organisation has no opinions, its recruitment and testing process is much more sympathetic to the concept of multiple intelligences than is society at large. As multiple intelligence relates well to Asperger's, there would be a potential attraction to Mensa for those, like myself, who felt that they needed to justify themselves as intelligent, whilst being aware of reasons for being considered otherwise.

We can be seem a bit pompous sometimes and we like to flaunt our intelligence a little. So, while I think that there are more intelligent aspies that NT's, I also think that we are more likely to join because we know it.
