while I agree that he shouldn't be fired over what he says, It is frustrating coming from a parent's perspective because we fight so hard for our kids and for others to understand them and accept them for who they are. I didn't take it so much as an attack on autism, but on parenting, because we as parents tend to get a lot of blame (unfairly) for our kid's behavior.

Savage is a "narrow-minded bigot". He reinforces the stereotype about AS as being "spoiled".

Seriously, I don't care, Sheesh, I'm even ready to go back to whining. Enough with Savage, I tried a Howard Stern Bashathon and that blew up in my face. I'm not offended, and I don't care if anyone else is, get over it. Go ahead b***h and moan about how he made a no-no in your book and why I should be a team player on this one, just try it right now. I'm waiting for an AFF agitator to totally flame me.

Why did you want to bash Howard Stern? I occasionally find him offensive, but usually just find him funny, and sometimes even insightful. So what, in particular, did he say that made you want to start a "bashathon?"

Savage was an a-hole even before he made this recent comment.

Yeah, I mean, I can't believe he got away with the "Santorum" thing either... Wait, wait, that's DAN Savage. Hmm, that gives me an Idea.. Perhaps we start using Savage as a slang term for Homosexuals? Dan won't mind, i'm sure, but it would probably REALLY get Mikey pissed off.

What is it with Catholics and liking Savage? The only Savage fans I know are Catholic.

Quote:
and his comments the other day were totally sarcastic and not meant to be taken seriously.

Bull. You're just making crap up here. There was no indication, anywhere in those comments, of sarcasm. And if it was only intended as sarcasm and not to be taken seriously, he would have clarified that rather than defending such statements.

Quote:
What he was really trying to get at that things like adhd and autism are way overdiagnosed,

All indicators seem to be that autism is severely underdiagnosed, and Savage didn't mention ADHD. He only talked about autistics being brats who haven't been told to grow up.

Quote:
that the medical/pharmaceutical establisment is way perpetuating a crime by drugging children with potent mind altering drugs for really questionable things when social invertations would work better,

Where did he say that? He never mentioned drugs. He also never mentioned social interventions (insulting a child does not count as social intervention) He just brought back a lousy version of the refrigerator mother theory.

Quote:
and has in general become corrupt and out of controll wich i totally agree with.

Again, when did he ever say that? Oh right, never, you're just making crap up.

And of course, he also claimed that black people are faking asthma to get government benefits. #(^&i@#$ moron.

Quote:
btw Micheal Savage had brother who was autistic who was committed to a mental ward and was killed by the treatements he was forced to take.

You're making stuff up again. The diagnosis of Savage's brother was never specified, you're just assuming it was autism.

windscar15, I looked up your old posts to see what you said about Howard Stern. I see in one post you said, "You haven't heard Howard Stern, he makes Savage sound like Ann Landers." What a silly young man you are. Howard Stern is a comedian, most of what he says is a joke. If Michael Weiner is joking, he doesn't make that clear; from the few times I've heard him he sounds genuinely angry and bitter. Sure Stern pushes the envelope and occasionally goes too far, but it's all meant in good fun.

As for 9CatMom's statement that "Howard Stern has made fun of people with disabilities, among other repulsive things," it's true that he has made fun of disabled people but only to show that we're real people who can take a joke, just like all the other people he makes fun of. If he didn't make fun of disabled people, while making fun of everyone else, he would play into the stereotype that we are fragile, helpless beings in need of constant pity. People like "Gary the ret*d", "Wendy the ret*d" and 'Bettlejuice" love him, with good reason, he has made them famous, and introduced them to many other popular celebrities. In some cases this has even led to them getting paid gigs touring with his comedians. And as for "Eric the Midget," Stern shows the patient of a saint putting up with Eric's constant complaints and demands as much he does.

It wouldn't be the first time someone was highly educated in specific areas but lacking in overall common sense. It almost sounds like he has Aspie traits! Except, it is my understanding that an Aspie wouldn't be likely to maintain such a constant state of rage. Then again, maybe he's having a perpetual meltdown!

Someone told recently told me that his words got taken out of context. He was saying how if a child dosen't speak right away and lines up his toys or basicaly seems unsual the docter says he has Autism and then puts him on all kinds of drugs he really does not need.. He did not say Autism itself is a scam but what he meant is that everyone is so quick to diagnose it and the drug companies are making it seem so worse.

Taking words out of context must be another way of saying "taking what someone said the wrong way." People sure interpret things different. One of the main reasons why misunderstandings happen.

If he in fact has two PHD's, it's amazing how little he has to show for it. He's a sensationalist, and he knows how to profit from being a hate-monger, nothing more.

As for him founding alternative medicine, I think I'd sooner accept that Al Gore invented the internet.

And if that claim is true, it only detracts from Savage's credibility anyways.
