Gary is a UK resident with AS who, in his search for his obsession on UFO's broke into US Military computers. The US government wants to try him in the USA and he has been fighting extradition claiming that since he committed his crime in the UK, his trial should be in the UK.
Now, if he did break into the computers (and I still believe in innocent until proven guilty), he should be punished. However, the sentencing guidelines in the US propose he spend 70 - 80 years in prison without parole which is totally out of line. To give you an idea, a person who commits 2nd degree murder can get parole after 25 years. I think the sentence in the UK would be less severe and as such, that is why he wants to be tried there.
Personally, I do not think ASD should have any bearing on this case but.........
Whose fault is it when a person with a mild disability breaks into a computer system? Instead of dishing out such severe penalties, maybe the computers ought to be made more secure?
