What the heck is going on with this story? I would like to know some information on exactly what has happened with Gary. What's more, why are Aspies mobilizing to free him?

I just need a little more information about this situation if anyone has it.

Gary is a UK resident with AS who, in his search for his obsession on UFO's broke into US Military computers. The US government wants to try him in the USA and he has been fighting extradition claiming that since he committed his crime in the UK, his trial should be in the UK.

Now, if he did break into the computers (and I still believe in innocent until proven guilty), he should be punished. However, the sentencing guidelines in the US propose he spend 70 - 80 years in prison without parole which is totally out of line. To give you an idea, a person who commits 2nd degree murder can get parole after 25 years. I think the sentence in the UK would be less severe and as such, that is why he wants to be tried there.

Personally, I do not think ASD should have any bearing on this case but.........

When has the police ever contributed to the safety of protesters on a demonstration?

Whose fault is it when a person with a mild disability breaks into a computer system? Instead of dishing out such severe penalties, maybe the computers ought to be made more secure?

Another thought: why is it ok for the government to spy on the public's online activity, but not the other way round? I'd bet good money that the government is up to dodgier stuff than your average Joe could ever be!!

What they trying to hide?

the fact that he has AS should have absolutely nothing to do with the matter.

Just seems odd that they're warning a group of people not to protest, when they never threatened to protest in the first place?

'Course I find the whole notion of a group of people with a social disorder all coming together en masse to participate in a social protest kind of amusing to begin with.

Just picture thousands of people standing in a quiet throng, holding FREE GARY signs, all avoiding eye contact and trying not to touch each other... :P

I'm going to drive all the way to Spokane and hire someone to jack the B&J house off the ground and to move it to Portland where I could always go and see it and get myself arrested for tempting to steal someone's house and have all the aspies protest to free me and have my mother write to Obama and ask him to set me free.

Does anyone else find it just a wee bit insulting that police can't vouch for OUR safety yet can cope with 'regular' protesters? I dunno, maybe I am just being a bit sensitive... Besides, how would they know if a person with AS turned up, it's not like we LOOK autistic!
