I was just wondering whether any professionals are active on this site. I know this site is a "support site", but I'm sure that actual practitioners could a) learn a thing or two from reading the topics and issues people with ASD struggle with and b) provide some useful tips for these problems.

I'd also be interested in other aspies/auties' opinion on this.

Hello, I am a member of this community. In my private practice, I am constantly looking for ways to be more effective in my role. Also, I can use all the help I can get from everyone here as to how to best help my son, who is on the spectrum. I want to advocate for him and help him grow, but also let him be who he is.

Like the previous poster, I am both a "professional" and the parent of a child on the spectrum. My teenaged son has AS. I am a special education aide, working on my MA so that I can become a special education teacher.

And I'm not 100% normal myself. :) Although I do not have autism, I have a number of the traits--OCD and little instinctive understanding of "normal" people.

I know when I was getting my dx the psych's were pretty interested in this site when I said I was on it, and they were when my son got dxd. I'm sure there's gotta be some on here but maybe they just watch and don't post.

I watch lots of 'guests' reading profiles and different discussion groups. There is always far more guests than members on. It's because we really don't let professionals post their surveys and ask research questions here, but we allow guests to read without posting.

Hi all you guys! Welcome to the Aspie Autie community!

I discovered numerous ASD characteristics in myself while in training to work with individuals considered higher functioning; my previous experience was with "classic" Autism and I had virtually no knowledge of Asperger's. I'm a classic case of undiagnosed female Asperger's. I love reading here to gain insight for myself as well as my clients.

:D Hello, I am a single mum, diagnosed on the specrum with 5 children also diagnosed on the spectrum. I am a professional (trained nurse) and am at university doing a post graduate degree in Autism. I have been researching the spectrum for the last 4yrs intensively but aware of the spectrum for many more and on it for all of my life

I am a great admirer for most on the spectrum, I love it, it is a beautiful place to be provided you know what you are dealing with. I have devised my own methods and together with my colleage who is completing a PhD, we have extensively researched paper upon paper until we found ways to help. All our work is supported by academic empirical evidence and we pride ourselves on the fact that our methods are gentle, non invasive and FREE!! We wanted something we could give to everyone that would make their lives easier. It certainly works, seeing is believing!

Embrace the rainbow we call the Autism Spectrum, enjoy it and be proud of it, life is and can be wonderful on it. It doesn't have to be a problem. Honestly. My family are the proof of the pudding. Check out my thread on the Childrens forum and you can see for yourselves! I am a very proud mum!! :D

This are our methods

I'm an Aspie and I work on a grant project called YouthLEAD; my title is Youth Information & Referral Specialist. I'm also going to be starting an ASAN chapter in my region later this year (hopefully!).
