I hate how they call autism an illness. I am not sick, damn it!

I know what u mean
Well said rebel I hear you. I think as a parent, i can learn a lot from people on this forum who have autism. Looking from the outside in, can be just as challenging as looking from the inside out. Which are u?

My Gen can be ignorant

I don't want my son to grow up in my world of ignorance. I have two sons one with ASD the other non-ASD. They are both typical boys, good mates and also have their own personal preferences which I respect. I hope they continue to enjoy life and educate people who don't understand.

My understanding of Landau-Kleffner syndrome is that one can exhibit 'ASD like symptoms" or even have ASD... but I'm just a lay person so what do I know! :-)

Airheads, The Age of Stupid... indeed

The more I read stuff like this, the more I think celebrities are the more or most disturbed amongst us all.

Children develop at different rates, even normal children do so, so there, Jenny.

Note the article above does not claim that she has. I have read the interview with Time and she makes no such statement. I cannot find any evidence whatsoever that McCarthy now believes her son had something other than Autism.

I think pandd is quite correct. In the TIME magazine article, it is other "scientists and doctors asking, Was her son ever really autistic?"; McCarthy is never quoted as questioning the diagnosis herself.

Frankly, I doubt that she would believe it even if her son was diagnosed with something other than autism. Her position seems to based solely on "a mother knows", impossible to refute by science or medicine.

Compared to the TIME article, the HOLLYWOOD LIFE article quoted by the OP appears to be rather poorly written and engages in the sort of vacuous jumping to conclusions that passes for journalism these days. But what else could we expect from a journal that touts itself as "your celebrity news, gossip & style BFF" . . .

This phrase intrigues me . Why is Evan never heard or seen in public. If my child had a miraculus improvement from his ASD and I was the 'unofficial spokes person for an ASD cure' with books and a charity, i'd have my son as the evidence. Rather than the book tours and verbal sparring in a public arena, namely chat shows. I have a sad feeling she is front and centre not her childs needs. Harsh, maybe?

I raise awareness in my own way in my own community, by daily life of meeting people and introducing my 5yr old ASD son. He's a happy little kid who gets on with life his way, enjoys meeting people and attempts talk and eye contact after prompting/coaching. The main point we are both learning, understanding and accepting ASD.

Best wishes to all

I agree wholeheartedly. It took John Travolta ages to admit that his son had autism.

And before she talked about her son having Asperger's, she used to say she was an "indigo" and her son was a "crystal".

This is true, Jenny Mccarthy is probably protecting him from the harsh glare of the paparazzi cameras. Although, she had a number of opportunities for softer options like, Oprah. Also, remember she and Evan will have to face the cameras one day, due to her appetite for the media and their need for truth... etc. This maybe sooner rather than later, now she and Jim Carrey have seemingly split.

This is what I see about it: If her son can't be Baby Jesus (seriously, look into the whole "indigo child" thing, it's freaking creepy)... then SHE can be Jesus and cure him. What's going on in HER head?

I am getting better with autism as an adult. Does that mean I never had autism either?
