Guys, stop acting like children! It's a joke! You guys need a sense of humor! I laughed my ass off at that joke! Cry me a god-damned river! It's not like people are going to look down on us! You guys who flamed him to pull down the video are no better than the islamic radicals who can't stand "Mohammed" in South Park. Freedom of speech guys! Grow some f*****g balls!

Except I didn't flame him, or tell him to pull the video down.

I didn't even see or hear a "joke" in the clip anywhere as poorly edited as it was. Not to mention the clips were so short and spoken so quickly I had to play it multiple times before I could even understand what the hell was being said. Even once I understood what was being said, I still don't see or hear a joke or anything I should or should not be offended by, or even care about.

With, that is, the exception of ONE THING:

ASSpies!

Yeah! That's offensive. Period.

Suppose the puppeteer had been in front of an audience with Down's Syndrome, and had used the term Down's Syndrome? Would the author have concluded the video with:

"Get a sense of humor ret*ds?"

Look, if I don't find something funny, it's my damned business. Whether it's because I have AS or not has nothing to do with it.

If you want to resort to name calling, "talk to the hand!"

I've got just as much right to speak out if I'm offended as anyone else. If you don't like it, too damned bad. If you don't want to hear it, do what I do. Quit listening.

Isn't that exactly what this guy is telling us to do anyway? Why does he have so much of a problem with others being offended by whatever the supposed joke was? If I "got" the stupid joke, I may be offended, or I may find it funny, but neither is the point. The point is, I have a right to whatever feelings I have. Period. And no one has the right to tell me it isn't right.

If anyone needs to get a sense of humor, it's HIM. Name calling never has been, isn't, and never will be funny. Period.

EDIT: By the way, even if I were offended, I would NEVER ask anyone to pull anything they've posted off the web or anywhere else for that matter. If something angers me, I ALWAYS have the choice to ignore it, as we all do. What I might do though, is try to present another point of view that may or may not convince the author to rethink what he said, and maybe even decide to change or pull it on his own. I would never directly ask though.

Doctor82 and I have made peace. I wrote to the Nostalgia Critic and to tell him how sorry I was. This is what he wrote back.

"Please, no apology is needed. It honestly was a joke I was not proud of, and as of this day is the only joke I removed because I was ashamed of making it. I know autistic people, and know that many of them are very high functioning. My girlfriend actually used to work with autistic children as well, so I am well aware of what they can do. It was simply an unfair joke and therefore not funny. Don't worry though, it doesn't haunt my nightmares or anything, but it is a joke that I goofed up on, and it wasn't because people complained that i removed it (I personally don't believe in that), it was because I didn't like it. Don't be ashamed of speaking out against humor that truly is more hurtful and unfair than funny, that is and never should be the goal of a comedian.

Thank you for writing back though, as well as continuing to enjoy my work. Enjoy Autistic Pride Day!

Take care,
Doug"

Happy Autistic Pride Day Guys!!

It's not a violation of freedom of speech to say you find something offensive and ask it to be taken down. It is the EXERCISE of if. Violations of the freedom of speech only happen when people are forcibly silenced. Nobody forced this guy to remove his video. He could have chosen to leave it there and thumb his nose at everyone asking him to remove it.

Freedom of speech is NOT about never telling anyone when something offends you. It IS about everyone having the freedom to express their opinions no matter what they are.

Don't confuse the issue. I'm about as NON-PC as you can get, but there is a fine line even I don't like people crossing. I don't tell anyone they can't cross it, but I will speak up if I find something offensive.

That is MY right to freedom of speech, and I will exercise it as I please. I don't have to watch crap like this, and you don't have to listen to me. That's how it works.

Poor Doug, I think he was injustly pressed upon by the senstive citizens who complained about this video.

You see, Doug's joke was, from what I presume, supposed to reflect on a stereotype about Autism that is of course false (make your own mind up whether its funny or not). So, some blowhard decided to antagonise Doug into censoring his video because they found it 'offensive'.

Personally, from experience, that "Advocate for Autism" or whoever their name is (seriously, why on earth do they have a username like that? I mean it just stresses 'one on the high horse'), is just too sensitive or just an attention seeking jerk using Autism as their scapegoat for being a pest.

Here's a stereotype example, in the PC game Team Fortress 2, the Demoman (Demolition man) is considered Scottish, and thus is depicted as being always drunk. Is this true? Of course not. Do I, as a Scot, have problems with it? Once again, of course not!

Seriously, it's like the "CAT!" running gag Doug has occasionally made, something minor and inoffensive has been blown up to seem like a threat!

And, to quote Forrest Gump, "And that's all I'd like to say about that."

I searched Nostalgia critic and found this thread. I read the entire thread and decided to put my two cents in.

I think the people who are complaining in this thread are just as sensitive (maybe more) than the AdvocateofAutism. Slamming the guy who wrote the blog was completely unnecessary. He was stating his opinion and that's it.

In Nostalgia Critic's next top 11 f-ups video, he put the autistic joke as number one and explained why he edited the joke out. By the way, AdvcateofAutism writes a great blog. I recommend checking out the rest of his work.

I missed this thread when it was originally posted.

I frankly didn't understand the autism comment from the puppet guy. I've no idea if it was funny, offensive, lame, or what. And that may be because of the editing not giving enough context. Well, not just may... I'm pretty sure it's at least partly that. Maybe mostly that.

The "asspies" from the person who put together the video, though, that's offensive.

Later, the Nostalgia Critic declared it his #1 f*ck-up in his list of top 11 f*ck-ups. The link is available here:
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videol ... c-fuck-ups
I think this sets the gold standard for apology.

My friend and I saw the original video where NC made that joke. My friend with AS laughed and thought it was pretty funny. Me, I was just confused like some of you but I didn't find it offensive. It's just one of a billion jokes where the joke passes by me without even realizing that it was a joke.

In agreement though, NC should not be getting so much hate for this joke. In fact he's more sensitive to autistics and others with disabilities than other review shows I've seen.

Given how many people are actually sanely saying that this didn't offend them I think that the fact stands that we didn't silence anyone. It was either some knee-jerk morons trying to act on his behalf or the critic himself. The fact is that he actually pointed out that this joke made him look like a complete idiot. I don't think so. I think it made him look misinformed and impetuous rather than a prick. I would have preferred him even to keep it up because I knew that some twat with the brain the size of a pea and balls even smaller would accuse us of not having a sense of humour because of course we don't understand jokes, these 'jokes' often being little more than wooden stereotype gags about various races.
