Don't know about Jefferson, but I do believe that two of my ancestors, John Adams and John Quincy Adams (the 2nd and 6th Presidents, respectively) were Aspies.

Lincoln did not, to the best of my knowledge, exhibit any signs of an ASD of any sort. However, it's quite likely he had Marfan's syndrome...

Okay, so we're not COMPLETELY incorruptible, but you gotta admit most aspies are good-hearted people who get $#!+ thrown at them all the time by the more corrupted members of society. I believe that most of us would probably have several harsh and censor-worthy words to say to these kind of people, but would never stoop to their level and belittle them or others, because they know how it feels. And people say we're heartless robots...pah! We have the same emotions as NT's, but we have the ability to temper emotion with logic and passion with reason. And it is harder for us to submit under peer pressure. Who knows, maybe the United States of Normality needs someone abnormal to finally bring some sanity to this world.

Both main parties, Republicans & Democrats, will NEVER elect an ASD politician.

I agree about Thomas Jefferson.
After he wrote a draft of the Declaration of Independence
that was not acceptable, he became so pissed off he would not
talk to anyone, not even his mentor Benjamin Franklin.

While he was President, he used a retreat in the woods
of Virginia when the rat race of Washington became too much.
He called it Poplar Forest.

But Al Gore an Aspie? BS!

That's still wishful thinking, sorry to say. If An Aspie can't get through high school, how would he have a snowball's chance in hell of getting through a presidency?

You proceed from a false assumption, slowmutant. Quite a few Aspies have completed high school - often with honors - and even gone on to college, and success in the business world.

You really should examine your preconceptions every so often - it's good for the soul.

To succeed in the business world, you must first be able to navigate high school. I read a lot of posts from Aspies who by their own admission can't handle high school.

Actually, a lot of aspies have trouble with high school, but to say they can't handle it is pretty much saying that they never get their diploma, which isn't true from what I've heard. Many aspies exist that have gotten their HS diploma in the mainstream. Sure it's a trial that they have trouble with, but it's possible to make it. Just look at me... I've made it through 3 1/4 years of high school and have no intention of dropping out anytime soon.

And how often would you expect an Aspie who had made it through high school to remark on the fact? It's a perfectly ordinary background detail in the average life, hardly worth noting unless it's missing.

Again, re-examination of preconceptions is a good thing - helps prevent mental calcification and psychic constipation.

You hear from "a lot" of aspies who "can't handle" high school. You don't hear from those who can. You seem to take this as meaning that aspies can't handle high school. However, it seems to be more the case that most aspies can, indeed, "handle" high school; they just don't feel the need to post about it, as graduating high school is an assumed part of life (at least, here in the US).

Your position seems to be rather like hearing from some aspies who are having trouble with, say, toilet training (some do exist, after all - has to do with difficulties with kinesthesia), not hearing from those who are perfectly toilet-trained, and assuming this means that no aspie can "handle" using a toilet.

My vote goes to neither all. Someone who says there is not ever a chance we'll have an ASD president is slightly mislead in my own opinion. If it were to happen, it would happen with time, which in this case composes of years. People need to take the time to understand people with AS or ASD in order to understand and judge a person for presidency.

I would love to be president, but the problem is I would be too honest. If the the diplomat from Brazil asked me why I was sitting all the way over there, I would say "I am over here because you have a slight bit of halitosis." Or if I get mad, I would tell them exactly what I felt about them, so that isn't always for the best.

I've read Richard Nixon was possibly an Aspie. Despite his political drive, he thought his intellectuality made him more fit for academia, while anyone who knew him could testify to his social awkwardness to the point that he was uncomfortable in his own skin, not to mention his odd behavior and ideas. One could argue his co-morbidity of paranoia and depression, as well as his heavy drinking fit in with Asperger's. Despite all this, both parties agreed he was nothing short of intellectually brilliant.
