Comedian Jokes About Autistic Boy Sexually Assaulting Mom
I'd disagree and say that a good comedian should also challenge taboos, which inevitably will end up offending a variety of different people who seem unable to take a joke.
But a good comedian should challenge those taboos that should be challenged, not just poke at anything in a desperate attempt to shock. There is no point is challenging a taboo such as not accusing people of raping members of their own family in as attempt to get laughs or to silence opposition. There is a world of difference between what Larry Flynt did to Jerry Falwell and what Frankie Boyle did to Harvey Price. The only thing Ann Coulter ever said that I found profound is, "The rule is-- you attack up." In other words, it's funny and brave to make fun of people who are more powerful than you. It's cowardly and bullying to make fun of people less powerful than you.
Again, glad in this case to live in the USA, where free speech protection is more robust than in the UK.
Well, it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day. We all find different people funny.
I've already said I don't find Frankie Boyle's new show funny for the most part - it's just too forced IMO. Which is a shame because Frankie's usually very funny, especially on Mock The Week.
You have better libel laws, yes, but your government is no better with freedom of speech really. Need I even mention the WikiLeaks situation?

Have you ever SEEN Boyle? He's the unfunny misbegotten abortion of the unreported incestuous relations between Proclaimers, named after a pustular infection. Harvey Price is both loved and well cared for, and gets all the benefits that having millionaire parents can bring, and people like him because he is adorable. Compared to Boyle, Harvey IS up.

I have no opinion on the child in question, but Katie Price is not going to win mother of the year any time in the near future.
Making fun of celebrities is funny IMO, especially if, like the Prices, they're famous for no real reason and show up on TV all the time on annoying shows about themselves, despite the fact I couldn't care less about them.
This is Frankie Boyle at his funniest, take a look:

I had the misfortune to have to watch that excremental reality show about her and Andre, and that hideous Fairy Wedding thing, and I saw nothing to suggest that she doesn't love that child like any other parent. And clearly she DOES spend plenty on his care. Pity nobody gave as much of a s**t about young Boyle .

This somehow reminds me of the Don Imus "nappy-headed hos" scandal a few years back. Imus and Boyle may be someone tasteless with their humor in general, but both just said one stupid and totally out-of-line thing, probably without thinking, and are going to be criticized for it for a long time. Imus lost his job for the nappy-headed-hos comment. He'd said some other pretty bad things over the years that he didn't get fired for, so it's only when the media picks out one thing that it thinks is offensive does action get taken. I'm sure Boyle's said some other nasty things in the past too, just as Imus had. So say what you want about their comedic taste. But it's wrong to judge them based on one stupid thing they said.

Oh come on. That's not true. You can be against censorship and still believe that people should not say certain things. I'm not in favour of anyone trying to shut Boyle up through legal means, but he's picked on easy targets here, played to stereotypes and gone for shock value because he isn't talented enough to make people laugh in other ways. Free speech means that he can make such jokes, and I can say I think he's a rancid little s**t for making them.

Ive got a lot of time for that point of view actually. I much prefer more moral comedians like Stewart Lee and Josie Long. I'd like Boyle to explain the point of his jokes. I think the intention is to destroy stereotypes rather than reinforce them.
