It has been a long time, but I need to ask about this.
There is a Dr. Paul Thomas who operates out of Portland, Oregon, who has some interesting thoughts on vaccinations and autism. Has anyone else here ever heard of him?

Vaccines do not cause autism.

I just looked him up because I hadn't heard of him until seeing this thread you made, and he seems to think vaccines and "toxins" contribute to children "getting" autism. Obviously he's a fool and now I am wondering how he was able to get a medical license in the first place if he doesn't believe in the scientific method and empirical evidence. It sounds to me like he shouldn't be able to treat children if he thinks avoiding vaccines and eating "real food" will decrease the chances of children being autistic. Hopefully his license will be revoked soon like Andrew Wakefield.

I don't like this trend, at all, towards people not vaccinating themselves.

People don't realize how disease was the scourge of all before vaccination. Causing much potential to be killed off because of diseases which are now almost eradicated through vaccines.

Read up on the history of medicine and of epidemics before vaccination.

It’s all about the increasing the amount in his bank account by decreasing the amount in yours. First thing that came up was a webpage listing his products.

The anti-vax sentiments tend to remain consistent in their messaging and arguments -- but are diverse, as they often fit within four distinct subgroups.

1) Mistrust of the medical community and public health officials.
2) Questions about the content of vaccines and whether there are alternative options for immunity.
3) Concerns about the safety of vaccines and their effectiveness.
4) Conspiracy theories, such as views that the poliovirus does not exist.

(Source: This CNN Article on "Anti-vaxers and Facebook".)

And, as ASPartOfMe indicated, there is a fifth subgroup:

5) Those who profit from inciting the controversy and spreading their lies.

Insofar as vaccines and autism are concerned, Dr. Paul Thomas is a quack.

I think there is some evidence points toward vaccines preventing autism in so much as childhood diseases can be an epigenetic factor that triggers the autistic neural development.

Based on the widespread use of vaccines, and relative safety, whatever drawbacks they have (there's always some) are MASSIVELY outweighed by being immune to devastating diseases like Polio, Measeles, Rubella, Mumps, Tetanus etc. etc.
