the National autistic society-
http://www.nas.org.uk/ and Autism Initiatives- http://www.autisminitiatives.org/ are two very big UK organisations that promote/educate on autism and choose support and teaching skills to best of ability, over cure research.

autism speaks is an organization of complete imbeciles who deserve to be killed in a most brutal fashion. they use us to get money which they say is going to autism research (and even that I'm against) but it just goes to themselves. hell, they are SO greedy they deserve to be called scientologists, those stingy tin-heads! (...and don't even get me started on them)

A marketing genius that needs to evolve into making more positive decisions.

Sorry, can't get it down to 10 words ;)

Tax exempt money money cash cash cash dollar dollar bills

One of the guys who runs Autism Speaks describes this well:

I consider myself lucky that here in the UK the main autism charity (the National Autistic Society) is a good one who promote understanding.

Ten words or less?

"No thank you."

Ten words exactly?

"No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! Thank you."

Since I am new to Aspie world, I'm wondering about the hostility towards Autism Speaks. Can someone illuminate me? Not "THEY SUCK", but some concrete reasons for the contempt?

@Wavefreak, I was the same way when I was diagnosed. Here's what I found:

1. They are for pre-natal autism testing. While this doesn't sound horrible on the outside, it has been shown that it will greatly raise the rates of aborting autistics.

2. No autistics are on their board, only parents. Can they really claim to speak for autism when the people on their highest level have no clue what autism really is?

3. The CEO of AS, Bob Wright, has an exorbitant salary of at least six figures. It's somewhere on their website, not sure where, if you want to look it up. People who run charities should not be living high on the hog out of the charitable funds.

4. Their general disdain for autistics, shown in such ads as I Am Autism.

If you need more info, I'm sure one of our other members who has done much more research on the subject would be glad to help you.
