uhh well.. a horific video by Autism speaks
I showed the video to my NT boyfriend and he was in shock. Our son is also is on the spectrum (PDD-NOS) and he said it best, it paints a picture that Autism is illness, that there is something wrong with us. Instead researchers and educators should be exploring ways to be understand how we see things and live life. He has stated many times in the past, that my quirks and our sons quirks make us who we are. While he may have skills that we do not, we have skills that he is in awe of.

I get the feeling Autism Speaks only appeals to the "Soccer Mums" (Aussie spelling )
The mothers that wanted their 2.4 children, see them go through school, play sport, be a "rebel" in high school and then grow up to perpetuate their parent's boring lives.
The kid doesn't like parties though, finds books more interesting and they can't deign to think that their child could be different.
I'm sure if they got a lot of people with bad autism/AS and gave them work in their interest with a supervisor, even as visits to a museum, lab, library, university, etc they could gain so much from them.
Trying to find a cure is like trying to convince a zebra its a horse. Paint it brown and it may seem to fit, even "act" like a horse but it never will be a horse.

You might think it's an attack on us, but grab your scalpels! Let's dissect this and see what it really shows about them!
---
1. They absolutely rely on a heard mentality. (They can't stand alone, where would they be without their merry congregation
of scared and stressed out parents?)
2. They can't function without waving money and everyone's face. (Look at all of those shiny happy SPFX in that thing! )
3. They push one group into a little tiny box and expect no-one to try and push out if. (They don't appear to have time to consult the group they supposedly represent, instead they say we have no voice rather then having a voice they are just to lazy to hear
right.)
4. They use scary voices and vague drama to induce fear. (Anyone who's seen propaganda before knows this just reeks of it.)
5. They assume you agree with what they say. (They are cocky as all hell...)
6. They use the false promise of 'community' and 'togetherness' to sell themselves.(...But clever, oh so clever. Not only have they tapped into a person's most natural instinct, that is, an instinct to form 'groups', they've also cultivated the fear that any person with autism is a person alone...but not if you buy SUPERHAPPYSHINYBSCURE©. They've also done it in one sure
swoop of sounds on a screen.)
7. Of course, they rely on the parents being ignorant of the true nature of autism. (I saw several comments saying that autistic people can't write, so the you tuber's trying to shed some light into the situation must not really be autistic. This also reeks of the odour of a sick parent who wants to keep their children illiterate in order to sell their cause and promote their own beliefs.)
8. Apparently, you can only get proper help from the kind of people who 'believe' in their cause. ( DAN doctors, like the people who believe in any old traveling preacher who promises to cure what ails them, these parents will flock to their side. If their
)
9. Relating to number 2, they obviously DIDN'T use the money required to make this commercial for the
benefit of autistic people and their families. ( What does that tell you about their priorities?)
10. They have all the spoiled narcissism of a four year old. (Only instead of calling their opponents and detractors 'poopy heads',
they instead use more 'group dynamics' type of stuff: 'Let's get together and destroy those nasty evil neurodiverse! They don't agree with us so they must be stopped')
---
So really, do you think that this kind of stuff will work forever? It's almost a new decade. Change is in the air and autism speaks, like all the old relics of an ignorant past, will fall. Of course, you can't fight ignorance. Hate groups and quacks are forever, but autism speaks is not, remember we aren't fighting an infallible fortress.
Cheer up, everyone.

I told my dad that the vid was made by Autism Speaks and he was surprised because he thought that Autism Speaks was supposed to help Autistic children, not use scare tactics to make them look like a disease and an embarassment to their parents. He was also disgusted by the way that they hide behind the image that they want to help the autistic community. This video just brings them to an all time low. Of course they're also telling viewers to donate to their sick, twisted hate group right beside the video.
