Same. I saw a BBC documentary on her some years ago.

The Temple Grandin biopic (it stars Claire Danes as TG) airs on HBO (a premium pay channel) on Feb. 6 in the US. I do not have cable so I haven't figured out a way to watch it. I even posted on Craigslist trying to find someone who might be watching, but the only person who responded also is on the spectrum and also doesn't have HBO!

I agree that her way of speaking sounds kinda like she's yelling at you sometimes. I am frequently accused of that myself. She certainly must get angry about certain things (like when animals are treated poorly), but I don't think she is hostile without reason.

I have always understood that TG is autistic, and didn't speak at all until she was like 9? I'm just trying to point out the distinction that is made between a diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome and a diagnosis of autism.

Here are links to the first 2 (of 5) youtube videos of an actual Temple Grandin documentary The Woman Who Thinks Like A Cow:

I think that she's just passionate for what she believes in.

yeah, me too (but I don't know what HBO means, I heard they were making a film about her life though and assume that is what you are talking about.)

HBO = Home Box Office
Film title = Temple Grandin (I think)
Release date = Feb 6th
Availability = live in US and subscribe to HBO channel?

HBO Canada topic

Many Canadians saw it, as I did. I ordered HBO for the month of February just so I could watch it. Worth every penny. And I can watch it a few more times this month.

I watched the movie TWICE. :) I am blessed that we don't pay extra for it with DirectTV.

Now... NOW.. i can see where the OP was thinking Grandin sounded angry... what she is is FORCEFUL in her speech. She's not angry.. she's trying to get the words out and has to FORCE them out because there might be frustration on her end when people aren't understanding her point, or it's a passionate subject for her and she knows she needs to slow down.

Find AWN on Facebook. It's the Autism Women's Network (I'm a member) and they interviewed her following the movie premier and they have interviewed her before using BlogTalkRadio. And I know there will be more interviews coming.

I didn't know what I was missing before! She *is* a truly inspiring woman. Not only did she have to fight because she had autism, but also because she was a woman! Amazing really.

And great job Claire Danes did! I totally forgot that was an actress after the first few minutes... which is hard for me to do.. so she did a bang up job!

It probably won't be released in cinema .... but HBO sometimes does DVD releases of their movies if they are popular enough. Which, this will surely be!

However, for more information from their website, you can go to http://www.hbo.com/#/movies/temple-grandin where they are also asking for questions for the cast and crew. :)

And I just checked their shop, http://store.hbo.com/?v=hbo_dvds_temple ... le+Grandin where you can buy the book, and the movie DVD!! AND books written by Temple Grandin herself that is related to the topic of autism. :) :) :) :)

I can't wait for payday!!

I experience her as very positive, almost weirdly pluckish. She is blunt and to-the-point, but I love that quality it's so refreshing. I've read the books too and they are also plainspoken and positive.

Here is a podcast from the NPR show Fresh Air that features several spoken interviews with Temple for those of you who mentioned you have never heard her speak. Listening to this was the first time i had ever heard of her at all. I'm very appreciative for having listened to it.

Peace.

Thank you for posting that. I have one or two of her books but have only read some of one. Almost everything about how she thinks and experiences things I perfectly understand and relate to, including all her theories on animals. I'm not someone who has ever understood when people become envious or jealous of others but when I started reading her story, I really did feel it, rather intensely, to the point that I couldn't read her book anymore. She has received so much help and she is so lucky. I would probably kill to have even a fraction of what she got. I'm too depressed now and honestly don't know how I've survived this far. I don't want to continue to see my talents become wasted. This depresses me. I'm tired of the struggle to survive.

Family view topic

My son watched it with me. I winced when I worried about how he would see her, as he is an NT. He said watching it gave him some insight into how I think in pictures, though not as proficiently as Dr. Grandin.

He really liked the film, which is rare for him, as he is not all that much into television anyway.

I don't think in pictures like Temple. She never sounded angry to me when I heard her speak. But the movie helped me understand why autistics are afraid of harmless things like sliding doors or escalators. They are seeing something dangerous in their mind. Temple was seeing a slaughter in her head when she see sliding doors so they scared her. I wonder if she is still frightened of them?

But in the movie, did she really sound that way in real life when she was young? I can remember her saying at the autism conference here that she was very autistic when she was in her twenties. Now she seems normal.
