I'm sure even a federal government has taken that into account. They mean proportionally - although they should probably make that a bit clearer in the article.

I went to school with a black kid who had a terminal illness that only affects black people; he didn't have much longer to live. I can't remember what his illness was called, but I don't recall anyone wanting to discipline the disease for only going after black people.

And the response to this is to punish the autistic people who happen to be white by cutting funding? Isn't that the very epitome of racism? Being judged by your race?

Ummmm...
Okay, how about this: There can be increased funding/awareness/whatever for black (or even non-white) Autistics when there is increased funding/awareness/whatever for white and/or female sickle-cell anemia sufferers.

Stuff affects different groups differently. We don't know what 'causes' Autism, but maybe it's some sort of environmental thing, and white people (full disclosure: I am a white people) live in such a way that we come into more contact with the environmental factor. Maybe it's a selective-breeding thing; there are a lot of whites in science and tech fields. Because there are a lot of them, they meet each other more, and can thus more easily date/marry/and so on each other more. Not to say that there are not Autistics (or people who can go on the create Autistics) in the black community, but since there are less of them close together, perhaps they do not get the in-house dating agency effect?
Or perhaps white people are just lucky that way (sarcasm completely optional; I don't really have an opinion).

When we really have no idea what causes Autism, I think it is not at all fair for black-rights groups to complain. For all we know, presence of a black ancestor severely reduces the chance of being Autistic.

I agree that class/culture is likely to play a role in it. We wouldn't have ever considered AS for our son if we hadn't ASKED the school to evaluate him because of issues we saw. Few parents will push like that. You have to be deep in the schools to think of it, and if you are just holding it together financially, or are coming from a culture that does not encourage school envolvement, you aren't going to be deep in the schools.

The government cannot account for that factor; it isn't statistical. But it could be why at least some of descrepancy exists.

Didn't you get the memo? It's socially acceptable to be racist against white people. Heck, most white people seem to be racist against white people.

Sexism seems to be acceptable as long as it's against men too. I've really only seen this situation once, but it was so blatant, it was disturbing. Fortunately one of the perpetrators has already been relieved of her duties at the company I work for. Unfortunately she already fired some really good people in favor or promoting people with similar body parts that always agreed with her.

It seems like some persons who are part of a group that is typically discriminated against don't understand their own behavior... when they are discriminated against others. :(

Discrimination is discrimination in my opinion. I don't think anybody is immune or has the right to discriminate because they are part of a group that has been discriminated against. It's like someone that abuses children assuming it's fine because they were abused themselves.
