I was wanting to know what that godamned joke was for ages and this was it?

It's not funny, but I'm not like "OMG! I'M SOOO OFFENDED!! !" it's more like "Really, Doug? Really? That's all you can think of?" I was hoping that the joke would be- I dunno - funny. I mean, it's lazy, but offensive? Hardly.

But I'm getting pissed off about the fact that a) the person who made the video is blaming autistic people for the censorship when he owns the site and he edited out the joke himself to avoid further controversy and

b) because whenever a group of people are offended by a joke about them, it's as if the very fact that they're offended is offensive to people. And then people get offended by people getting offended getting offended and so on and so fourth......it's maddening.

I agree, it doesn't make a lot of sense and it's awkward. Seriously this is a "Explain Doug, Explain!" moment(As opposed to "Explain movie, explain!"). Er, anyone who's watched a lot of Nostalgia Critic reviews understands what i'm talking about.

Although he does write these reviews with his brother a lot so it may have been Rob. I dunno.

Not only did I email Doug about that, and told him he should've left the video as is--and what a huge fan I am--but if you didn't see the site for the bastard who complained....I let him have it as well.

I encourage more of you to leave your commentary to this guy.

Where do i find his email address at? He's probably too busy on the second anniversary special to answer emails right now though(which will most likely be awesometastical).

I didn't see anything wrong with that joke. I found it quite funny. No wonder people hate us, so much. The majority of our population, would blow this joke, out of proportion.

I still wish I understood the proportion for it to be blown out of; I didn't even understand what was supposed to be funny about it..or how it even relates to Autistic folks.

It takes a lot, lot, lot more to insult me than something like this. Ya gotta insult my intelligence, and lemme tell ya, most folks are not up to that task.

Well, I emailed Doug Walker, and apologized for what happened...and I also slammed the jackass who criticized him for it on his own damn blog.

Seriously...look up "Nostalgia Critic Autism" on Google; you'll find the blog, and where I blasted him for it.

I didn't see the blog at all when I googled it. Perhaps I don't know which I am supposed to look at. Also I couldn't find his contact to email him.

I'm a fan of the Nostalgia Critic, and Channel Awesome in general. I'm not a fan of any kind of censorship (other than in special cases like child pornography or breach of privacy).
That said, I found the joke unfunny. Not because it was offensive - frankly, it wasn't - but because it was based on the premise "autistic children will laugh at anything," which is very obviously generally false.
From what I understand, Doug wasn't forced to delete the joke, but chose to. I see nothing wrong with editing one's own mistakes. If I made a video and later found information that made me feel shame or regret about something I said, I would either edit the video, or make another video explaining that I've changed my mind. Not to avoid controvercy, but to represent myself honestly.
This is coming from someone who is very strongly against censorship. Self-editing for correction is not the same thing as censorship.
Do I think Doug should have edited the joke out if he still thought it was funny? No, and I doubt that he would have.
Do I think the blogger was right in his actions? I can't say, as I don't know what he wrote in his E-mail to Doug. If he just wrote some facts about Autism, I wouldn't object to that. However, if he straight up told Doug to remove the joke, that would be wrong, as it should be up to the artist what should or shouldn't be in the work, regardless of who might be offended by it.
What do I think? Everyone just calm down. There is nothing to fight about.

The Advocate of Autism guy seems overly sensitive.

I read his full blog post, and he mentions "taking up the cause" because of the "re-tard" line from The Hangover???

If anything, I would be more offended that they portrayed Zach Galifinakis's character as being Aspie-like, but also borderline ret*d. But I wasn't. I took it for what it was, a movie.

And getting upset because he's going up to random people and asking them to join his club, and they respond rudely? Well, that's a part of life. Next time, he should set up a booth and wait for people to come to him.

It's people like the advocate guy that are the reason why aspies get a bad internet reputation. All those ED/uncyclopedia articles and internet jokes are about these over sensitive killjoys.

i've actually decided not to send him a message. it's relatively old news and i'm sure he received enough mixed reviews when he posted the videos. his jokes can sometimes fall a little flat. he's not perfect in fact he frequently misspells things in his own reviews but i still enjoy his reviews as well ask that guy, bum reviews etc... anybody else can send him an email but i'm not going to.

I don't understand. Any of it. And now I'm kind of curious. What was going on in that video?

I'm a fan of NC and I didn't even notice this...
But yeah, the lame joke was nothing to get up in arms about. Hardly offensive.

I don't get it, but I also don't see what's so offensive. I guess it could be interpreted as offensive if the meaning of the joke was "autistic kids are so stupid they will be amused by anything," but then the guy is insulting his own humor.
