If you've been diagnosed by a doctor, you do actually qualify for benefits in Washington State AB. I work with plenty of Aspies in Seattle through my AS socializing group, and quite a few of them have been able to obtain services and benefits through social security, EBT food assistance, medicare coverage, etc. It's not easy, since the state makes you jump through some hoops in order to convince them that you are in fact disabled, but based on the things I've heard you mention on WP I don't imagine that would be a problem for you.

Here's a starting point for you:

To add to this and maybe clarify a little, SSI or SSDI benefits are available for those who can demonstrate they are not capable of working in order to support themselves.

Someone with a diagnosis who is capable of working, but cannot find a job that suits their abilities, might want to consider contacting their state's Office of Vacational Rehab and checking out their services instead. Those programs are designed to help people with disabilities find jobs or get additional training they might need to find gainful employment. In Pennsylvania, there are also programs available for people currently on SSI who would like to work, but want to do so without losing their health benefits. So, there are different options, depending upon someone's situation.

EBT food assistance (ie. food stamps) and programs to help with utility assistance are available in most states based upon financial need; you do not need to have any 'official' diagnosis or disability to apply.

To answer the original question, I work in social services at an agency that assists people with various disabilities. I would give it an 8 because I enjoy it, but it can also be stressful and the pay isn't spectacular.

I'm a new car salesman. I hate sales and want to get out, but I can't get out because nobody will hire me. And I totally suck at it, so I'm not making anything. So um...like a 4, I guess.

I work at a factory that makes windows. From 6AM to 10AM I work as a machine operator, from 10AM till 2:30PM I do trash collection and housekeeping chores.
I'd give it an 8. Half a job is better than no job. All overtime is done as a machine operator.

Don´t know if that counts. I am doing an apprenticeship as a toolmaker. I like it a lot although it´s often very exhausting... I enjoy working with all those machines. (mostly milling machine and lathe) I´d rate it a 8.

Exhausting? Man every day of my life I wish I had a mill so I didn't have to fabricate backets, plates, adapters and all sorts of other s**t using a damn angle grinder. I'm a machinist according to a piece of paper from a technical school so mills and lathes are where I should be.

I am a "handyman", mostly I do work for my family especially on the citrus farm where I'm partially responsible for maintenance, machine operation, fabrication, engineering, scrap metal, janitorial work, networking, etc. I rate it a 7 because it's awesome when my grandpa isn't up my ass, I'd probably give it another point or two if I had a mill with an indexing head and various other tooling.

I really liked using and making stuff with lathes and mills when I was making car stuff. And a shaper, my friend had a goddamn giant shaper which is a thing with a tool like on a lathe but it takes strokes across a surface and move sidewise slowly. We Used it for planing cylinder heads.

I am quite surprised at the amount of unemployed people using WP. Presently I am a Student/Bookworm, and I rate this living, 7/10.

Shouldn't be surprising for a forum dedicated to people with a particular disability that also has a tendency to come with comorbid diagnoses. Not everyone finds it easy to get a job or work once they've got one, no matter how much they might want to.

Its pretty good, I'd give it an 8.

lol; I sit at work, drink coffee, read xkcd, and when I get motivated I review a few support cases advanced to me by the NTs on the phones to customers and see if I can fix them (or advance them to engineering if the underlying product needs code changes). If my boss is watching, I look busy. I'd give it a 7 or 8 (depends on my mood).

Working with computers and only having to deal with emails and IM's really helps!

I've been without actual gainful employment (I'm a writer - I'm not making any money from my labors since I'm as of yet unpublished) that I've been told by social security that I don't qualify for disability. Still, my wife thinks I should check into this. Do you think there is any hope for the likes of me getting gub'ment help?

When you get out of school, either high school or university, the surprise will wear off.

Somehow I have always managed to keep myself employed. Currently I work for a mortuary transport service. I'll let you figure out what that means.

Yes, but at least it's not a dead-end job. (Sorry couldn't resist. :) )

I'm a dustman. I clean garbage off parking lots, and I love my job. :)

Sure it's not a dead-end job, but it's a dying industry. :D

To add to that, I am working graveyard shift tonight!

I do not earn a living but am currently supported by tax payers of the United Kingdom. *

* This is subject to cancellation by the current government sometime soon and that`s when I`ll be making a sharp exit as it is becoming too much of a struggle to bother having all the harrassment anymore.

I'm currently unemployed, but I plan on getting that first job this summer.
