(it's baaaaaaaack. . ) Bachmann's vaccine doubts
Is his particular virus subject to "herd immunity"? That's the only reason I can see to justify forcing vaccines on people.

From what I'm reading, this disease is infectious but not contagious, so herd immunity doesn't apply. Social networking math kicks in, instead.

states use the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s schedule of immunizations
as a guide, and require children to be vaccinated against a number of diseases on the
schedule, including diphtheria, measles, rubella, and polio.

Bachmann knew that if she said what she had really wanted to say - that the HPV vaccination would supposedly allow girls to be promiscuous - then she'd look like some sort of religious nut. Instead, she chose to go the route of inventing this crying mother with her tragic story that just made her look like a nut.

I hate people who use circuitous methods to further evil, try to be indirect whilst being wholly out of bounds or try and worm around.

I doubt if she ever put that much thought into it, Bill. If she had that much foresight (or gall) she would probably be a more viable candidate for president. Occam' s razor suggests she just passed on gossip with no thought as to if it were true or not, because it kept up the 'outrage'. This is a something a middle aged wife and mother in Stillwater, MN could do and never think twice about it, however when translated to the national stage points out a naivety to accept as fact anecdotal information as truth and lack of discretion to present it as such without due research on the topic.

I must respectfully disagree. Bachmann has been tied to the religious right since her college years. She and her husband run one of those "pray the gay away" clinics, and she has opposed protecting gay students from bullying in her district's school system. Everything this woman says or does is influenced by her right wing interpretation of Christianity. If she comes across as crazy, it's because she and much of the movement she represents are out of their minds.

I do not (and did not) say she is 'crazy', what ever that means. I have lived in Minnesota, and known wives and mothers from Anoka, Richfield and Stillwater. Passing along gossip, no matter how 'religious' one is, is a habit that is considered a lesser failing among members of the Church, but habit it is. She is a product of her environment as much as she is a member of a movement.
I stand by my perception that she is naive enough to accept anecdotal information as truth and passes it along with out intellectual curiosity as to its truth in a larger context.

Perhaps so. I'm just going by what I know about extreme religious conservatives, which she's included in.

I just had a friend post a link to the Ian Gromowski website on Facebook. The site photographically documents the grim 47-day death of an infant that suffered an adverse reaction to the Hepatitis-B vaccine. It seems like it would be useful to do the same for children that died because they were not vaccinated.
Nice blog article on how not to report on vaccine safety:
