Should I live this site?
There just seems to be a lot of animosity towards people and organizations that support a cure. I support Autism speaks and most people here seems to hate them with a passion
By the way, I don't hate Autism Speaks.
As a matter of fact, I'm feeling kinda mellow, right now.

The problem many here have with those who want to "cure" it is that it is not rooted in reality. It would require rewiring the brain to do it and that would change enough of the person so that it is possible that the end result is that you no longer are the same person. Now if by cure you mean to make socialization easier then most here would probably like that. That is achievable though through understanding and not a total change in the person. Understanding goes both ways and is not totally on the back of the NT world. I think we too must try to learn how to interact more successfully with them if we are to expect the NTs to make the effort to understand us. Of course, I do not speak for all on the spectrum. It may well be that those with more profound disabilities farther along the spectrum than a high functioning aspie like me would see things differently. I don't know though as that is not my experience and it is likely not the experience of the majority of those who are functional enough to post a lot on sites like Wrong Planet.
As to the whole subject of "Autism Speaks", most people here see them in a bad light for some very good reasons. They sue autistics who speak out against them with tee shirts, etc. They do not allow people who are autistic to speak at their events. They do not allow autistic people on their board of directors. They come off as an advocacy group for NT parents who want to complain about their child's autism rather than as a group that advocates for the rights of autistics. They do little to no work for the plight of adults on the spectrum and instead put their focus where the easy donation money is: children. Sometimes they do the right thing though and at those times they do deserve to be respected for it. However, it seems to be that those times are few and far between.
As far as it goes, no, you shouldn't leave this site. We need a diversity of opinion here and all are welcome. You probably have things to teach us and we probably have things to teach you. It would be a very boring world if we all thought the same thoughts and held the same opinions.

When and if there is a cure, they'd have to find it for every individual with a disability or disorder.
If you want to leave because you don't feel you fit in... well... I hope in your case that the grass is greener on the other side.
Why not give this place a try before slanting it... just because you have social phobia doesn't mean you have to leave.

I'm kinda with you, Op. I find the whole "We'll never find a cure!" attitude very presumptuous. There was a time where majority of people said we would never master the skies. We just sent a robot with a laser on its head to Mars and one of our probes is leaving our solar system. You never know what's going to happen in the future. We can make educated guesses, but in the end, they're still just guesses. That's what makes the future so fascinating!
I don't know too much about Autism Speaks though. Sounds like the PETA of pro-Autism organizations.
