As for high-functioning Aspies I would not support a cure. Even though Aspies often have poor social skills, and their executive functioning and theory of mind isn't the greatest, they're capable of living on their own someday and contributing to society. I think the "cure" for some Aspies would be talking adderal to improve focus and attention.
I know this is a necrobumped thread from 2013 but there is so much wrong here.
I am not a kid but due to tongue cancer I am non verbal now but can certainly use the language. While bieng non verbal is a recent development for me many mute people can use the language well. There are autistic advocates that are non verbal, according to this post Stephen Hawking is not living up to his full potential.
These wrong assumptions are why the whole Aspie supremicism idea that only "high functioning" Aspie people like themselves do not need a cure but a cure is a good thing for those other "low functioning Autistics" is wrong.
It is telling the the poster supported Autism Speaks. They have sucessfully used divide and conquer techniques on the autistic community. This technique has convinced many parents that autistics because they can write can give no useful advice to thier kids who have "real autism". It has had a role in convincing many autistics that Autism Rights and Neurodiversity movements are made up of only people who think Autism is only a gift, therefore is harmful to people like themselves who struggle. This technique has convinced many autistics to assume that most people that call themselves Aspies do that because they are supremacist/elitist, want excuses etc thus turning what was a positive into a negative.
Aspie Supremiscists often dispise Autism Speaks but Autism Speaks has used them well to do great harm. But these "geniuses" allowed it to happen because in some important ways thier thinking is alike.

I'll be honest, I had a little trouble following a lot of what you wrote because it seemed to be heavy with sarcasm and that doesn't come across well in text. That said, I agree with the gist of it; the only reason we're considered "disabled" is because we live in a society that is profoundly sick and we're more or less immune.
Edit: Well, okay, I'll concede that sensory processing issues, being nonverbal, etc. are disabilities for those who have them. I meant more along the lines of lacking the "normal" social wiring.
Also I'm not sure about others, but my mind works best when unconstrained. It's a very wild and untamed thing, and as such being just another cog in the machine is really quite a waste of what I have... so in some sense I am very chaotic, but it's a constructive, creative chaos, not a disruptive or destructive one.

I'll be honest the original post was so disgustingly exempt of giving any justice to autism that I lost a lot of control of bothering to edit myself; that said, I greatly enjoy your allusion to society being profoundly sick and we are immune. That actually makes 100% sense. We should try to find a cure for neurotypicals.

I don't know if they're *that* extreme (yet), but there could be some individuals in A$ sick enough to think that. After all, there was a mother who said she wanted to commit a murder-suicide on her daughter by driving off a bridge, which she said in front of her daughter, and A$ said that it was okay to feel that way. If she had said she wanted to murder her NT son, how would people have reacted then?? In fact, she said her son was the reason she didn't do it.
I'm telling you though, forcing anyone to act "less Autistic", punishing them when they do, using what they call "therapy" when any sane person who saw it being done to an NT would cal it "abuse", or using "cures" that poison and kill Autistic people, if that's not evil I don't what is.
I definitely will not be "Lighting It Up Blue", and I'm not ashamed to beg others not to do the same. And that's sad, because I really like blue lights. I once even used only blue lights on my Christmas tree.

Now wouldn't that be a huge economical market just waiting for someone to exploit!

Well, we can't really get away with discussing this here, but if you want to humor yourself come over to my place AutisticProdigy.com and I'll let you get away with it
So what's this website about?
Another safe haven for autists, but to discuss quirky ideas, concepts, philosophies, and share resources to enhance their deeper inner thoughts & abilities rather than simply a generic bulletin board.
