Depends where you live. America is about 40% total, Britain is higher. Germany and Sweden have income taxes in excess of 50%, and I don't even want to know what other taxes they have to deal with.


Australia depends on your level of income - under $6000 doesn't attract any tax, $6000-$25000 is 15%, $25000-$75000 is 30%, $75,000-$150,000 is 40% and $150,000 onwardds if 45%. Then add another 10% for GST on purchases, petrol exise, and there's probably a heap other taxes I don't know about... the GST was to be 'the tax to end all taxes'... but since then some 600+ new taxes were introduced, resulting in a $13 billion budget surplus in 2006.
