In answer to a question a bunch of posts back ...

There might be money to be made in the sense that a communicative, high functioning or "cured" autistic can provide a window into the condition for desperate parents and others eager to understand the "hot" condition of the moment. Of course, they have to express it in a way that NT's understand. If they can, they can find an eager audience for books, lectures, ideas, etc.

But it seems to become a double-edged sword, because being able to express what is going on inside, in a way NT's can relate to, also exposes one to charges of not really being autistic. Honestly, I think its a tough call to make, and not it's going to come out fair. These voices are needed, but having that need also means that some may respond who are faking it.

Not that I think there is a lot of money in it. Some may just like the attention. But most seem to just want people to understand, so that future children like them can have a better childhood. Perhaps one way to evaluate how much attention to give a speaker is to look at what his goals are.

But I'm not one for publicly calling anyone out. Providing perspective is good. Information to help people decide for themselves.

I am not a fan of the "cure" mentality, to put it mildly, but please stop slandering the young man in the video without knowing him or the whole story. From my interactions with him, he does not call himself cured. People here have no idea what his motivations are, and to insinuate otherwise is irresponsible.

I'm skeptical. I have the right to be regarding the guy. Now maybe what he means by curing himself (it's in another one of his videos) is getting rid of alot of traits. I just don't like scammers and naturally go on defense when it comes to those seeking a profit.

Also Amanda Baggs can SING?? WTF?

Is this her singing or is this one of the communicators? It's interesting.

People like Catspurr make it the reason why I would never make videos about me talking about my condition and posting them online. Last thing I need is the "You don't have AS" crap or "You aren't on the spectrum." God just because they are sitting in front of the webcam talking doesn't make them un autistic because they aren't showing any signs or they seem normal. Well we aren't going to show signs every single minute or every single hour. Besides there was nothing there in the video to trigger the guy's symptoms. I didn't see his other videos yet though.
