oh, yes, its been going on for years before this. the uni bomber was pre- columbine.

but its the fear of the unknown, or the different.
'witches' etc- anyone a bit different, on the edge of society- if you dont interact, live alone- you're HIDING SOMETHING!! !

When the Polytechnique Massacre happened on 6 December 1989, they kept hammering away at the fact that the killer was a "loner" - same thing with the Dawson shootings many years later, in September 2006...

There is no doubt that bullying is supported by wider society and with the function so described earlier here...

Making people aware of that fact would help somewhat... This appears to be one of the issues that the gay rights people have been interested in and those opposed to them also... the gay rights people know that bullying takes place to force gay teenagers to suppress themselves for failing to comform and they try to end this by trying to force places to adopt policies to protect such people. Those who militantly oppose gay people go on about how it is necessary to bully gay teenagers onto the straight and narrow like in the good old days and to oppose any protections that such teenagers could benefit from to mitigate the bullying or even shield them from it.
