why do people say it is impossible to be born with autism?

That's like saying the colors yellow and blue are "on the spectrum." They are on the overall light spectrum, but if you think of autistics as being the portion of the light spectrum that falls within the infrared to ultraviolet range, yellow and blue certainly do not fall within it.
That sounds like a theory my sister told me. Sister works with a woman who has two autistic sons, and one day they were on the same break and this woman watched my sister put all her food in separate places on her plate then cut everything into bitesize pieces before eating it, in order of preference. (She's always done this, I put everything separately not touching & eat in order but don't cut it up first.) This lady told my sister that was a very autistic trait and my sister asked her what she meant, did it mean she could be autistic?
The colleague answered that in her observations, almost everyone has one or two autistic traits, but that doesn't mean they have autism. Autism is, to her, when the number/severity of these traits affects ability to live a normal lifestyle, and to what extent.
That sounds about right to me. Look how many people fidget & fiddle (especially how many oral habits there are), have a slight sensory issue, have a twitch or tic etc. but would never be diagnosed as autistic. Seems like at the milder end of the scale, these things are part of being human.
These are probably people who think vaccinations are the cause of autism. My Mom knew there was something different about me long before I was ever vaccinated. I was definitely born with autism.

Autism can occur in the womb it can also occur from the shock our bodies have to vaccines.
I discovered what causes all of this and I changed my life with what I learned.
I am constantly trying to share it but people think I am full of it!
So I limit myself to the issues instead of trying to help people who don't think someone like myself can actually figure something like this out, But the fact remains.... I lived this!
I know how it happens, I know what causes it and I know how to prevent it and what to do after it happens to reduce the effects and open up possibilities of coming out of it all together.
The severity of autism, I measure by the amount of that which causes it has been consumed and how often!
I was not born with autism, or my aspergers syndrome, It was developed through a lifetime of consuming the toxic substances that cause autism and a great many other behavioral and physical health disorders and problems.
My Aspergers syndrome hasn't gone away but at times it improves, sometimes I have set-backs in the way of accidentally consuming something I shouldn't so the things that lead me to believe that I have aspergers syndrome return and it takes weeks to take myself back to where I was.
Believe it, or not... I have figured out that autiism, aspergers, tourettes, sleep apnea, alzheimers and literally hundreds of other physical and mental health problems are caused by the most severe allergic reaction humans can have!
The fact that we are all unaware that certain chemicals used in foods, beverages, drugs, cosmetics, toiletries, etc are in fact allergens, undiscovered, undeclared, undisputed and unbelieveable.
You, me and every living being on this planet(wrong) are allergic, no one is immune and no one knows!
Stop consuming the allergens and your problems lessen and perhaps can go away if you are able to avoid everything!
Is...that supposed to be sarcasm?

We know so little about "Autism" that every weird off the wall idea about it can flourish without impairment by the facts! What is needed is some real effort put into discovering just what we mean with the term "Autism Spectrum". Right now the CDC has published a number 1 in 110 are "Autistic", that about 8% of children have "ADHD", other sources places "Asperger's" at 1 in 105 or that 1 in 44 are on the "spectrum" - now I could go on with these wild ass claims -- there is no end in sight for such foolishness.
Our problem is simple - no clear definitions of what is being talked about - we are constantly adding new individuals to the "spectrum" and being shocked by the rapid increase in "Autism".
What I suspect is that we will find if and when in depth studies are done with open minds in this field is that for the great vast majority of us especially for Asperger's and HFA is that we inhibited it from our parents through a large number of genes spread over many chromosomes. Also very likely we will find that some low functioning Autism and non-typical display of some on the "spectrum" may well turn out to be flawed single gene mutations (Fragile X is already known and is considered on the spectrum) or may be some cases will be brain injury or some form of poisoning. Once we are willing to look at just what we now are trying to lump into one big pot of Autism consists of with open minds we will figure out that is is several conditions with unique causative factors.
By the way this would not be the first time this lumping together similar conditions and confusing them as all the same thing has happened in medical history. - Look up the history of Stomach Ulcers. It was only after a back water doctor in Australia proved that most (but not all) ulcers were in fact infections that could be cured with anti-bionics did the medical establishment get a handle on this entire area of human health.
We must do much the same for the "Autism Spectrum".

Some parents may not even notice the symptoms because they don't know what is normal behavior in a toddler or infant because they are their first child. Temple Grandin's mother didn't notice until she met her neighbor who had a daughter who was the same age as Temple but she was a little older than her by a month? or so. That was when she started to notice something was wrong with her so at age two, she took her in to get her checked out and the doctor suggested she institutionalize her after he said she had brain damage. That is what they called autism back then too.
Now today it seems like parents are worrying about if their kid is autistic or not when to me it's obviously nothing. They compare their child to another child all because of this autism awareness stuff.
