Rex Reed is a bigoted man. He is the one that is "lethal".

I've sent an email to them. This kind of ignorance disgusts me. I think the writer is the one that doesn't care about other people's feelings, needs or priorities.

It really is ironic considering it's people like that who purvey non-autistics as incapable of empathy as bigots like that obviously don't have any themselves!

I sent an e-mail.

"His alarmingly empty life is so devoid of passion that he can go to a funeral and feel nothing."

Personally, I cried for hours and hours when my last cat died. And afterwards, I felt incredibly depressed for weeks.

I couldn't imagine how I'd feel if I lost my mom or dad, or anybody close to me for that matter.

I hope this as*hole feels horrible inside.

Yeah. Or they have it, but they don't use it (for anything else than mere decoration, that is, as in "see what we have, and what you don't have!").
Or only use it for "other people" that are like themselves. (That's what "other people" really means in their usual description.)

Yet who is more idiotic, the idiot or the idiot that calls him an idiot?

Ok, not the best use of a Star Wars quote, but perhaps Mr. Reed is trying to compensate for something?

At anyrate, I say this to Mr. Reed: baka iidesu yo. You, sir, are an idiot.

People have opinions. Journalists make controversy for a living. If you don't like it email them.

oh and one more thing, who says? I know he's a fictional character and all, but lets pretend he wasn't. Of course he'd feel something at a funeral especially if it's someone he was close to. Yeah he may not have shown in they way most people do, like it was bottled inside or showed a different emotion to what he was feeling but he still would have had the emotion. I think this person is mistaking aspergers for being a robot.

OK rant is now officially over.

that reminds me of my grandpa's funeral. i guess i didn't appear sad or anything but i did feel sad and everything. my mom (or dad) i don't remember which parent) asked me why i wasn't sad. i guess i really didn't appear sad. eh...i don't get why it's so important to be crying and everything at a funeral. ok we get it, the person's dead, it's sad...but if you don't feel like crying, why do people think you feel nothing?

The irony in this thread is overwhelming. You hate someone for being mean towards people with Asperger's Syndrome and yet you do exactly the same thing back and then suddenly it's okay? That's the crux of being neurotypical, you get sympathy regarding this from no one.

But it is...it's only uneducated people that say that kind of thing. it's ridiculous.

We aren't saying all NT's are responsible. I know a lot of NT's who couldn't give a s**t one way or the other if someone was Aspie, but for every one of these kind, understanding people, there are three or more prejudiced, bigoted idiots who propagate this BS, like Mr. Reed for example. It's people like Mr. Reed that claim that they're an expert in a field they know jack s**t about (in this case, autism) that give the rest of these kind and caring but neurotypical people a bad name.

I for one discriminate against the idiots like Mr. Reed, but I don't think all NT's are idiots. That's the difference between selective prejudice and stereotyping.
