I read this off another (NASCAR) board and had to post it here-

DOVER, Del. – Since the title of the Sunday, May 31, 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway was announced, the NASCAR community has come together to offer their support for a great cause.

Drivers and teams in all three of NASCAR’s national series have answered the call to sport the Autism Speaks blue puzzle piece logo on their vehicles as a sign of support for the nation’s leading autism science and advocacy organization.

Race fans at the track and watching at home will see a variety of NASCAR cars and trucks with the very recognizable logo on their vehicles. 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams entered in the “Autism Speaks 400, presented by Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips & Cheese” on May 31, six NASCAR Nationwide Series teams entered in the “Heluva Good! 200” on May 30, and nine teams entered in the “AAA Insurance 200” on May 29 have volunteered to carry the logo throughout the race weekend.

Participating drivers and teams include:

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

Kenny Wallace, No. 28 U.S. Border Patrol Monte Carlo SS
Clint Bowyer, No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet Impala SS

Bobby Labonte, driver of the No. 96 Ask.com Ford in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and David Starr, driver of the No. 24 Autism Speaks/ HT Motorsports Toyota in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, have taken their support to the next level. Both Labonte’s Ford Fusion and Starr’s Toyota Tundra will sport Autism Speaks’ signature puzzle piece logo, “It’s time to listen,” phrase and website address AutismSpeaks.org on their quarter panels. Starr will also feature the same messaging proudly on his hood.

Fans wanting to support Autism Speaks and wear the colors of the organization are encouraged to purchase a limited-edition Autism Speaks 400 collectible pin. Pins will be available at Dover International Speedway souvenir locations at the track on race weekend. The pin retails for $ 7 and a portion of all sales will benefit Autism Speaks.

I have bolded drivers I support. (thank goodness David Ragan wasn't on the list)

Now, they have been associated with Autism Speaks for a while now (the Sadlers, as well as Jamie McMurray and Terry Cook are affected by autism).

Am I mistaken, but don't we have an issue with this group? I'd like to know your opinions on this if possible.

The main issue is that they claim to speak for all Autistic people, but don't have any on the board. They also openly support genetic testing in the womb, they support the mercury fanatics, and they hop in bed with DAN.

At least, that's why I don't like them. I'm sure other people have different reasons.

Some other issues that I have with Autism Speaks is the song that they have in their video, and they portray people with autism as useless eaters, and they think that all incontinent children grow up to be ret*ds who ruin life for their families.

There! I've said it after two years of making the rest of you guess why I hate them so much.

I don't think they support the mercury theory, but the rest of it's all true.

What is DAN?

Glad my favorite (Dale Jr) isn't on the list. IIRC isn't there a driver who has an autistic child?

Well, at least supporting Autism Speaks never killed anybody. Back when it was the Winston Cup, now that could have encouraged smoking which would have killed people. That being said, however, I do not agree with what Autism Speaks says, and think that they view all ASD as "bad" and I do not agree with that.

If they are trying to promote aborting fetuses that are found to have autism, then that's killing people to me.
