Top Autism Panel Backs Research Objectives Mentioning Vaccines -- Dueling Press Releases Ensue

On Tuesday, the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC), Washington's leading arbiter for directing federal funds to autism research, unanimously voted to recommend studies that include investigations into possible links between autism and environmental triggers - including vaccines - in certain subsets of children.

The IACC has not yet posted details on what was decided at the meeting, but two opposing autism organizations are already applauding either A) the inclusion of vaccine-autism studies in the federal research plan; or B) the rejection of such studies from the plan - depending on whose statement one reads.

On Wednesday, the nation's largest, most mainstream autism foundation, Autism Speaks, issued a press release under the headline: "IACC Includes Vaccine Research Objective In Strategic Plan For Autism Research - Autism Speaks is Encouraged by New Language Recommending Funding of Vaccine Research."

Just the Vacs topic

Crazy logic: I just had my H1N1 and my Seasonal flu shots. I am becoming more autistic as I write.......

And once again, the studies will debunk any such linkage.

And once again, the anti-vax crowd will either ignore them or claim the whole group is in the pocket of Big Pharma, which judging by the claimed influence must be bigger and scarier than OPEC and the Mafia combined...

Congress must continue the vaccine study to keep those "gifts" coming in from drug companies.

Vaccines do not cause Autism, just a few occasional deaths, and worse, lifetime problems, which the United States does pay for.

Since this only happens to a few, like the .05% that make up the worst form of Autism, it may not be vaccines, we did not have them when I was a child, still had Autism.

It was not Tetra Ethel Lead, removed in 1972, that only caused IQs to be 10-20% below the level of the parents, but it did not cause Autism. It does reflect on the current economic problems, who would have thought prices could go down?

Autism Speaks rightfully favors the study to include Dust Bunnies, and everything else. Dust Bunnies are where Dust Mites live, and they have paracites, which some might be the cause.

I know, that is absurd, like rat fleas being the cause of the Black Death.

The "Regressive Autism" part points in that direction.

This new organization does talk like drug companies have something to do with their funding.

After Thalomide they are so touchy. "But it was approved by the Government!"

At least The Intergovernmental Committie on Intergovernmental Committies only funds the work, it is still carried out by autistic people working in labs who's Special Interest is reproducable data.

When will this nonsense end? Once again there is no evidence linking vaccines to autism.

Never let facts get in the way of a good hypothesis. Since it's impossible to prove a negative, the claims about vaccines and autism will persist until

1) There are no more vaccines
2) There is no more autism

Otherwise, just be sure to look behind the curtain to see who's pulling the levers. Or, since politics is involved, follow the money?

Obviously, some people don't want to listen to reason. they just want to hear what they want to hear and that's sad.
