Please Continue to Not Support Autism Speaks Video

This has been posted here many times before, and we have done a good job exercising our voice, since the Autism Speaks vid is down to only 2 stars. However, a woman just got through calling us "brainwashed aspies." I can't work or drive. I am impaired in many ways. But, I don't feel I am apart of an epidemic or affliction and I do not need their efforts towards "fixing" me to be more neuro-normal.

If you feel the same way, please go and "one star" this piece of crap video and let them know how you feel. Thanks.

I just read on YouTube that the video was taken down off the Autism Speaks main site due to mass protests and that the UK branch of Autism Speaks has disavowed it. Still, it's not too late to continue to let our feelings be known.

Yes, have people got saved copies of the video so that it can be kept as evidence after Speaks inevitably takes it down?

I'm not sure how to download and save it. Do you know how?

I mean, this was shown at the UN and nominated for an award. They can take it down, but how can they disclaim it?

I unsure how to interpret that video. I would need to see it over and over and analyze for that, I saw it twice and I dont get it..
Is there a hidden message or whats wrong with the video?

I have just been personally attacked by username Veritas. She says I am fooling people by telling them that they should not believe negative, pessimistic advertising. I would appreciate any support in combatting this misguided woman.

Autism is negative as far as...everything clinical goes (for the most part).

I still liked it, as it shows that the families of those with it are there to help, and they're unsung heroes. I am autism, and it totally sucks as I can't connect to people, but I have a beautiful mother who's there for me, who allowed me to take the years upon years to get to build a bond with her, who also accepted me, where the world didn't.

Wow. I don't think I've heard that level of rhetoric since... well, since the day after 9/11. They certainly are passionate, you have to give them that. Rather misguided, though.

First time I saw this video, I could only watch the first minutes of it. They are eerily similar to the movies that was made in Nazi Germany to prepare the public to so-called mercy killings - murders - of children who many times were just suspected of having mental problems. The pictures, postures and even the authoritative threatening voice is the same. When you have seen this part, and heard how autism breaks families, the second part seems naive, and you feel sorry for these families.

You may even get the impression, that Autism Speaks mainly wants to protect the other family members from a child with autism. I have noticed on their web-site, that they write about how autism feels for the other family members, but nothing about the feelings of someone with autism. Persons with autism appear to be seen more as problems than as human beings. And the natural reaction to a problem, is that you want to get rid of it.

I do not believe that the producers of the movie or Autism speaks are in any way sympathetic to Nazism or share any of their views. However, it appears that the producers of the movie knows very little about how to get people to accept a message through a movie. It also appears that the management of Autism Speaks have a very bad sense of judgement. That is a major problem for an organisation that is supposed to help people with autism.

I will like to see someone from Autism Speaks comment on the video and the thinkning behind it. Hopefully that they openly will acknowledge that they are responsible for the view of autism shown in the video, and that they will avoid making similar mistakes in the future.
