I find the name Autism Speaks to be ironic because when we speak for ourselves, they shut us out. They should call themselves Autism Shut Up

I think that's the point. They claim that THEY speak for autism, so of course they want autistics to shut up.

Autism does speak, but apparently they don't listen. They can't hear us with their heads shoved up each other's asses.

Autism does not speak.
Neurotypicality does not speak.
Schizophrenia doesn't speak.
Orangeness (color) doesn't speak.

Labels and categories do not speak. I speak: I'm a person. People speak. (Exceptions excluded.)

The only example that I've ever heard of "autism speaking" is in the "I am Autism" video... Which, with just a few edits, turns into "I am Satan" surprisingly easily...

Yep! Only THEY can speak for us!

Yes it does. My neighbor wore an orange tie for Halloween, and it was quite loud. 8O

It's very insulting. I wish they would get shut down, or at least publically exposed for who they really are

We have to take some sort of action. I'm strongly considering writing a letter to President Obama addressing the issue.

I love the parody video "I Am Autism Speaks." It's hypocritical of some curbies to say that they hate autism for what it's done to their sons, but if their husbands have Asperger's, they stay married to him anyway.

It could be worse. According to South Park, Gingers (redheads) have no souls.

I can't see them being shut down. There is very little public support for those with Autism or Asperger's at the moment in the UK and US. It's more likely that they would be allowed to continue marching on with their insulting proposals and ideologies; anybody who does try to challenge them would likely be bumped off as a liar.

I agree. However, their point indeed is that autistics supposedly cant'speak for themselves, so they speak for "autism", and discredit any autistic who speaks for themselves fo rnot being "really autistic".
