At work, someone from another department asked me to put together a training on autism, on rather short notice and without any budget to pay a speaker. (I'm kind of irritated about it to be honest, but am trying my best). Since I couldn't manage to somehow get a good speaker on 3 weeks' notice for free, I decided the best I could do was show some short films about autism, then let people have an open discussion about the different representations of autism and viewpoints presented.

It's an internal training for our employees, at a nonprofit social service agency that serves people with various disabilities, including ASD's. The audience will be made up of case managers, direct support staff and random office staff. Most of them will have a basic understanding of what autism is, but not everyone will.

They do a training like this every year on autism and in years past, a parent of a child with autism had organized it and found speakers with a fairly negative message. I'd like to offer a more balanced perspective, 'put a human face' on ASD and just generally make them re-examine their own views and sterotypes. Some of the people who will be there work with people on the Spectrum and the knowledge they end up with will have an effect on the quality of services those consumers get.

I came up with a few things I'd like to show them to spark discussion ('I Am Autism' and various YouTube parodies and responses to it, PSA's from CAN and one done in conjunction with the Dan Marino Foundation and ASAN, some things from The Autism Acceptance Project, Alex's 'Autism Reality,' 'Autism Everyday,' other odds-and-ends, etc.)

Before I start trying to put everything together, though, I'd like to get input from other people. What would you recommend I use? What do you think it would be important for people to see? Or, what would be good discussion questions to ask them? Thanks!

The NAS situation ones are really good for things like autism training videos as you can see :)
