I think they might be able to write, don't they?
If my (presumably NT) young cousin were to be accidentally struck in the larynx, destroying his ability to speak, he would not suddenly be proclaimed low functioning. That is to say, the hinge upon which an autist - or anyone - is declared low functioning is not (solely) their verbosity.
And the fact of the matter is that the bulk of LFA people are voiced in some manner. It is more likely that they have intellectual difficulties, particularly in expressing their needs, affecting
all of their communication channels. I cannot recall, in my four or so years at WP, anyone like that posting here. It doesnt even seem reasonable to expect it.
The closest I can recall is a young gentleman - and I use the term loosely - who ranted and raved inarticulately that everyone here were simply not Aspies... only he was. He even called Tony Attwood a fake. He was obviously of too low intelligence to be cast as an aspie, claims aside, but none of his diatribes ever mentioned a lack of speaking ability. I rather expect he was an earful in his offline life too.
Furthermore, it is not possible to feel loss of something without having experienced it. Ask a congenital blind person if they feel trapped by their lack of sight. They might express wonder as to what it is like, but they cannot miss that which they never had.
