Regarding the student with Aspergers Syndrome who was recently convicted of murder.

http://www.boston.com/news/health/artic ... ggression/

I submit that we have 1 big media celebrity killer per week somewhere in this country. By this I mean 1 murderer a week who is elevated to celebrity status by the media.
If people on the spectrum make up 1% of the general population then, statistically, 1 media celebrity killer every 2 years should be on the spectrum.
I'm sure there are better math wonks than I on here. Is my math off? Is my premise faulty?
Is this a good way to explain this young man to NTs?
Or am I just full of crap?

The fact of that case is he was diagnosed Bi-Polar and his parents fed him a steady stream of Stephen King. Aspergers was used by the lawyer because it's an "in the news" term and he hoped to get sympathy for his client. It's irresponsible and can only lead to trouble in the daily lives of innocent people with Aspergers.

"While Odgren suffered since he was a child from Asperger’s syndrome"

Why in the news is it alway suffered from Asperger's or Autism?

It's very misrepresented.

They clearly focused on the fact that he has AS. I mean in the video linked to the article posted the man speaking about the case said that Odgren had "suffered from various mental disorders, Aspergers Syndrome, a number of other things."

Yeah I notice that people frequently say that people "suffer" from AS or Autism.

Oh how we all must suffer
Just like calling ASD or AS a disorder by default it is in my opinion a very wrong word to describe our alternatively wired brains.

Also building a defense based on ASD or AS suggests we would all be unable to tell right from wrong and/or comprehend the consequences of our actions. I don't have to tell any of you how wrong that assumption is.

The media always seems to find the tag with the most emotional or recognizable attachment. A lot of times they will define someone by their employment even if the event had nothing to do with that employment or even if they have to attach the word "former" to it.
