this disgusting video misenterprits the concept of aspergers syndrome, and shows it as a mental redardation rather than a difference. hopefully we can have this video removed from youtube.

Is this supposed to be funny? This is a rhetoric question, since I do have a sense of humor, and found this repugnant  . Where do they get off calling AS a disease, anyway? (Another rhetoric question)

Read the "more info" in the description.
It's satire.
While the word 'disease" has negative connotations, it's still an accurate descriptor for the condition...
insofar as "disease" is defined as such: "a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms."

If that guy is trying to accurately display Asperger's, then why does he have a wall-eyed guy with a "slow" sounding voice talking about it?

I think that he was deliberately trying to be offensive.

Here is what he said to me on youtube:

Quote:
Yeah, this is just satire. I made this video as a statement about people who just use aspergers as a get out of life free card.
...
I don't really think one person is better than another just because of their shortcomings or lack there of.

If you take the time to read the comments given by the poster and creator of the video, you will find that he doesn't think Asperger's is real. He had said in one of his comments that it is just an excuse for lazy people who wont grow up. He also said that Asperger's can be used to describe just about anyone.

Satire, sure.. But in what way? Satires make fun of things. Maybe the point of his satire: "BS"?

It is insulting and repulsive to see people claim that Asperger's is something fake. He claims that he doesn't believe people are better than one another due to shortcomings or lack thereof, however his previous statement implies that people are beneath him for being "lazy" and not "growing up" (aka no such thing as Asperger's).

On subject of the video though: it wasn't funny. I find his speech pattern interesting. He had said that he mimicked the speech off a guy on YouTube called "desertphile." I find the mimic to be pretty accurate! He drags out your typical signs of AS and talks about them, and throws in the random facts things often along the way.

I am so tired of seeing the TYPICAL traits of Asperger's displayed. I want to see something like stimming portrayed for once. Maybe somebody getting upset with his environment being changed a bit (placement of an object or something). Maybe even decreased sensitivity, allowing him more exposure (or less -pleasure-) to something than the average person as a joke.

He goes off and claims something is fake, and yet he does all the stereotypes, and nothing uncommon. That just shows how little he really knows.

this is satire, and I found it quite amusing and not at all offensive.
you've got to laugh at yourself sometimes lifes too short to be serious all the time

That was pretty funny.

I mainly think it is funny because of that picture

It's just a satire about poeple who "self diagnose". He is just targeting poeple who think they have aspergers just because they read some article about it and it vaguely sounds like them.

He explains it in another video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiY6G6h1 ... re=channel

I have to admit, I thought it was real at first too. I have a hard time understanding sarcasm sometimes, so I was thinking "oh great, another tanja koch." But then I read some comments saying it was satire and watched the second video.

Do you people have to make a new thread every time someone throws a subtle insult at you?

I actually found it quite an entertaining video, apart from two things.

a) Calling Asperger's a disease.

b) I have a voice just like the guy in the video. That's not the point though, it's reminiscent of how some people think it's funny to imitate my voice, doing so as if it's the voice of a "ret*d". I found that aspect of the video to be in bad taste.

Quote:
I went through great lengths to make sure this video was a completely accurate depiction of kids with aspergers. This video is 100% fact and not satire at all. Well, actually, if you believe that then maybe aspergers isn't your biggest problem, if you have it at all. So there has been some controversy about that fact that towards the end of the video I threw in the word "disease," I've had countless people comment that aspergers is not a disease... and they couldn't be more wrong. The word "disease," could refer to variety of things, including mental conditions. But hey, I know you're not going to take my word for it so I'll go ahead and paste the definition:

"a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment."

Chances are you're all ready watching the video, and there's also a good chance you'll never read this description. But for those who have read this far and might be offended, I ask that you check your false sense of self entitlement at the door. I mean, if you can't laugh at yourself...
