"My Name is Khan" is an upcoming Bollywood movie dealing with an Asperger's character living in the US.
Shahrukh Khan plays the main character Rizwan Khan, who acts in a politically sensitive environment of Islam and western way of living, all this embedded in a love story. It appears in cinema February 12, 2010.

For I am not allowed to post any urls here ( I received an error message when I intended to post these urls to be clicked directly).
I cannot put any direct links neither to the movie site with trailer nor to wikipedia....

Googling with "my name is khan wikipedia" for information or directly "mynameiskhanthefilm" to find the official moviesite with trailer will help.

I just got done watching My Name Is Khan, and I was pretty much amazed.
This movie isn't ABOUT Autism. It's an amazing movie with an Autistic main character. I've been hoping to see something like this for a long time!
Two warnings, however. Firstly, the movie is 165 minutes long. That's a serious commitment.
Secondly, the first half and the second half of the film have fairly different tones and subject matter. If you love Bollywood, you'll hate the first half, and if you hate Bollywood, you'll hate the second half.
The plot of the movie involves a man named Rizwan Khan, who is born in India to a doting mother. The story follows his immigration to America, conflicts with his jealous brother and his efforts to win the heart of a beautiful Hindi girl. It realistically depicts both his limitations because of being Autistic, as well as his talents and strengths. I am sure opinions will vary on how "accurately" Asperger's Syndrome is depicted in the film, but I for one believe it is extremely accurate.
Thematically, the movie deals prominently with the experience of immigrants, as well as important issues regarding the treatment of Muslims in America before and after 9/11. In the second half of the movie, the tone shifts away from "this is a man who is autistic" to "this is a man who is a devout Muslim and a proud American citizen". It gets a little farfetched, but not as much as a lot of Bollywood movies, and certainly not even half as unbelievable as Forrest Gump! It does showcase similar allegorical tales of America, but from a very different perspective.

Anyhow, i was really impressed.

I watched this film today and thought it was great. It is currently being shown all this week on Sky Movies Premiere in the UK for anyone here who wants to see it!

I agree with this film being a serious commitment. I needed a little break halfway through because it was so long and also subtitled which makes it harder for me to keep up. I have to pause a lot to read it all. :)

My Name Is Khan shows a character who is very autistic. Most aspies are not like that. Furthermore, it shows a muslim who is not against non-muslim ideologically, most muslims are not like that. The African-american part and the floods of 2005 that it shows are an unnecessary part.

I have just watched this film and I think it is a very good movie. The director's use of an autistic character is very effective in the context. The lead actor, Shah Ruk Khan, is himself a very interesting person, and does a credible job of depicting some autistic traits, although it is a specific autistic person and not a kind of generic "autism" stereotype. The film is not about autism but about relationships between people, and between individual's, society and government. It goes a bit Forrest Gump in the middle with some unnecessary and unrealistic heroism.

The portrayal of the effect of post 9/11 islamophobia on ordinary people is very moving.

I have not watched it because Sharukh Kahn's acting always breaks me down

and this movie is not just about being a low functioning autistic but about muslim's in America post 9/11.. And more over Karan Johar's movies tend to be a bit dramatic

On an unrelated note I love the movie new york directed by Kabir Kahn about post 9/11 muslims... though I don't know how much of it is true
