Here is the Autistic Calendar for 2011:
=========================
June 18th - Autistic Pride Day
August 8th to 12th - Autreat
August 22nd to 25th - Autscape
November 1st - Autistics Speaking Day

Are there other events to add to the Autistic Calendar for 2011?

What makes this calendar autistic? Does it have repetitive behavior? Trouble socializing? Did it have a speech delay?

:P

I was thinking you were talking about a wall calender, which would be hilarious.

Someone should make a wall calendar (or better still, one of those desktop ones) with pictures of autistic people (with a bias toward people who look like Heather Kuzmich-- say, make them at least half of the pictures) and facts about autism. Useful facts that would combat misinformation.

Autistic Pride Day I think should be renamed Autism Diversity Day. I knew the folks that started it. They were butts at times and any disagreement with them and you got shunned. Autism Diversity Day allows for the appreciation of diversity of idea, way of being and individual choices and rights.

I got shunned because I asked why a father was seeking his sixteen year old son on the internet. Come to find out he ran off with a 35+ year old something autism advocate lady. Which in England is perfectly fine but I just asked a question to the founder lady as the father was writing to blogs. Other then that to me pride is the wrong word for what I'd like to think of it as. I just want inclusion, awareness and appreciation for diversity in how one chooses to be and the right for treatment advancements to be respected when one chooses.

Pride also as a concept excludes other relevant feelings individuals with autism have about autism. The idea of diversity does not exclude ideas but is inclusive to many ideas. So Autism Diversity Day I hereby announce as another name for that day and I can do this because I choose to.

Naw, it should show all shades of aspies, not just super hot aspies, and they all have to be in bikinis, just kidding but not about the first part.
