Most people with Asperger's Syndrome have "obsessions". I enjoyed talking about electrical and mechanical devices such as fans, airconditioners, lights. I also loved to talk about freeways and exit ramps.

Anyway, I was just wanted to ask all of you something. What was your obsession growing up? Are you still interested in that today? How did those in the neurotypical community react to this innocent fascination?

What exactly was your "obsession" growing up?

Dinosaurs when I was a child. Other kids didn't really seem to care either way. They weren't interested in hearing me talking about them, but didn't make fun of me for it. I am no longer obsessed with dinosaurs, though I do still like them. I am now obsessed with snakes, geckos, and longboarding.

In addition to roller coasters which I still love, I have always loved house plans. Growing up, I used to sit on the floor with my house plan books spread all over the place and catergorize the plans according to square footage, dimensions, number or rooms, style, etc. I still find pleasure in doing this. Today, I collect blueprints for not only houses, but also roller coasters.

I loved to talk about fire drills and school buses also. I was in 3rd or 4th grade then. That was around the time people started noticing I was "different" or as they liked to call it "weird".

I guess my first obsession was about water and drainage - that was when I was about 4-6. Then the radio, from 6-7. Then from 8-about 17 computers (this one is still present in the background), now politics mainly.
My parents initially worried over my obsessions. By the time it came to be computers they became more accepting of it, especially when diagnosed.
I also have a number of 'minor' obsessions, in particular at the moment trains (in particular bashing, since about 2007) and the history and culture of the German Democratic Republic. Previous minor obsessions include languages and electronics.

Since the age of 9, my main obsessions have been computers, the Winter and Summer Olympics and The Kinks.

Dinosaurs was my first big one, I could literally look at a drawing or skeleton and classify it. Ongoing ones include how things work, astronomy/astrophysics, and computers.

I've had one fairly consistent obsession since I was a child, and that's understanding the human condition. Everything I've researched in my 28 years has been tied to this.

For me, it's electronics. I absolutely love electronics. That is my single most number one interest all through my life. It's my passion. I had some side interests, quite a bit actually. Plungers, radiator vents, coffee, tea, laundry detergent, rain gutters and down spouts, especially vintage, and vintage C6 christmas light sets, were among my most "off the wall".

I like how gadge's father's interests were freeways and exit ramps and mhm's was water and drainage. These are interests I can wrap myself around, they sound pretty interesting.

I have no idea really...I guess I like Astronomy but I have always made it a hobby and rarely talked about it with people (even my own parents...who try to encourage me to do it full time...but I am not THAT interested in it).

Through my bout of depression I just look up gaming industry news rather then playing the games...I guess that is an obsession although again I don't tell anyone about it...as I've learned that people don't care about what I say anymore.

I was obsessed with Music at one point too...but I've pretty much tired myself out and tried to get back into it but the current charts are horrible...not because everyone says it is...but because I can't seem to enjoy these songs...even from established Artists.

I don't think I have an obsession. I have interests in the same way that NTs do. :?
