This is a copy of my letter: Use what you can and leave the rest or write your own, but please contact them for all the adults with Autism who have been discriminated against by some of the organizations named in SB 161:
Esteemed Georgia Leaders:
Please Vote No! on SB 161 because:
1.
It does not name any Autistics to the proposed State-wide Autism Task Force in Georgia. How can we continue further with discrimination of those on the spectrum, yet work to better their lives at the same time?
2.
Some of the organizations named in the task force have been disrespectful of adults with Autism and those with differing opinions by exclusion from organizations in order to control the agenda and continue the status quo, which has led to continued high unemployment rate in the autism population. Adults with Autism are key to helping us understand the realities of Autism and how we can help our children on the spectrum have meaningful lives.
3.
There is already an Atlanta Autism Research Consortium (AARC), which has been meeting on a monthly basis for close to 2 years and all the groups mentioned in this bill are already involved in the AARC, which includes but is not limited to the gathering of scientific minds, researchers, including Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, the Centers for Disease Control, Georgia Pediatrician’s Association, state department personnel, physicians, Georgia Dept. of Education, TRICARE South (military service providers), private schools, businesses, parents of children affected by autism and more importantly adults with autism to create a better understanding of autism, screening, education, treatment, and services and who can recommend an honest, open, unified and coordinated agenda for addressing autism in the State of Georgia. The AARC is striving to be respectful of all voices in the autism community, as well as, to pursue and promote sound science. All the major university autism researchers are involved in the AARC.
4.
Duplication of this group will only politicize the process and impede the great work and progress by the AARC, with the inclusion of the adults on the spectrum who are verbal and can help us understand autism from a differing perspective.
5.
These appointments promote continued profiting from Autism through political control and deeper pockets, not open dialogue. Georgians cannot continue to spend millions without progress. This leads Georgia to more of the same. Again, some of those named in the task force have a reputation of impeding progress through discrimination against those with Autism --the ones they attempt to serve. Please don’t allow the high unemployment rate of individuals with Autism to continue by lobbied political appointment, instead allow the spirit of honest, open, democratic dialogue by all major perspectives on Autism for Georgia’s future success and stability.
Autism does have it’s challenges, but not everyone with Autism regresses, some of our greatest contributions to mankind have come from those with symptoms of Autism, to quote Dr.Temple Grandin, an internationally-known autistic that has made unique contributions to our society,
''Civilization would probably pay a terrible price if the genes that cause Autism and AS were eradicated. The world might become a place of highly social yakkity-yaks who would never do anything new or creative."
Georgia needs an open, honest and reasonable discussion about the needs of those with autism, without being hindered by the politicizing the progress currently being made in Georgia, otherwise we will continue to see the high unemployment rates for individuals with autism.
Thank you for your time and discrimination.
Respectfully submitted,
Carmen Allen

That second link there. There's a link toward the bottom of that page that says, "As Passed Senate," so I presume it's already been passed.
This is a link to that document:

(Actually, it's a link to several other links to the actual docs. Way too many for me to read right now.)

I believe making a public stink about it would be better. Get a group together and go to Fox News. The lame stream media will totally ignore it, but get Megan Kelly's attention and she'll put it on the air. The legislature will do what they want to do anyway. People may not like Fox, but I find it better than any of theother lame networks.

Like Fox would be willing to support us. They are owned by a corporation and are the most conservative mainstream news source, they are not likely to take our side.

1) All news networks are owned by corporations whether they be liberal or conservative. 2) There is a Fox reporter that does have an autistic child - I'll try to do some research to find which one. 3. The most insensitive news networks in my experience have been the liberal ones. My neighbor's daughter suffered from Gorham's (vanishing bone) disease and the family need to raise money to pay for her treatment. The only news network that even touched the story was Fox News. Their coverage saved that family from bankruptcy. 4) You have any better ideas?

1. Not all News networks are run by corperations, expecially not in the way Fox is.
2. So? She is probably not going to take our side on this issue.
3. That was one case. And advocating Gorhams does not equal supporting autistic self advocating.
4. Well, no...

1. All the major networks are run by corporations - do your research.
2. I was using an example. Your point?
3. Gorhams is a terminal illness with no cure, Asperger's while having no cure, is not terminal. Therefore, advocating for Gorham's disease is of equal if not greater importance.
4. If you have no better ideas, why criticize?

1. NPR isn't
2. And your point?
3. It still is completely unrelated.
4. Because I can.

1. NPR is owned by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting - which is still a corporation under Title 26 of the United States Code (Internal Revenue Code).
2. I asked you first.
3. It is related as it is an example within the same subject matter and is thus sequitor.
4. It is my opinion that you're uneducated and don't have a life. Maybe you need to get one. I'm saying that because I can.

Fox News put out a news report about a company started by aspies for aspies. They specialize in software engineering. Report was put out about three weeks ago and was well done. None of the lame stream media have ever aired anything like that. BS that Fox wouldn't support us.
