Today at my school (which shall remain nameless), there was - of all things - a fire drill. Everything went OK throughout the drill, but when I go in, the elevators aren't working. I complain about it in my usual way (we Asperger's people are known for outbursts), trying to help everyone who can't get on the elevators. Then this police officer comes up to me and asks me to calm down, which I did, and informs me why the elevators must be closed for 5-10 minutes.
My family always tells me, "You wouldn't want to hear outbursts like that all the time, would you?" Truth is that I don't mind hearing them all the time. After all, where would people like Martin Luther King, Jr. be if there was no such thing as activism? (By the way, I had no intention of being violent. It was purely nonviolent protest.)
People seem to look down, condescendingly on people like me for those reasons, thinking that we're aliens or something. You can probably hear me thinking, "They don't look at serial killers as aliens, and they get away with all kinds of stuff before they're caught."
We aspies are 2% in the making, and we still are not understood as well as we need to be.
So what do you all think? About autism politics, activism, and media representation?

First, MLK was not prone to loud outbursts, he was a very eloquent public speaker and knew when to speak and how to behave civilly. He was all about non-violence.

Second, getting agitated rarely accomplishes anything positive. No one thinks clearly when they're excited. Unless you want to spend your life in and out of jail, you'd better learn to get a grip. High Functioning Autism means just that - and if you are High Functioning, then "functioning" calmly and reasonably should be a high priority.

You will find as you go through life that there are certain people who, if they realize you have the potential to lose control of your emotions, will intentionally find and repeatedly push the buttons that they think are most likely to set you off. Some do it because they enjoy the drama, some do it just to get you in trouble, but the bottom line is, they can only succeed at it IF YOU LET THEM. You cannot blame them for your lack of control. No judge will listen to a "He/She MADE me do it" defense. Its ultimately all on you, and if you don't want to spend your life in a cell or on court-ordered meds that turn you into a drooling zombie, then a little Zen and Kolinahr are a wise recipe.

There are more effective means of activism than hooliganism (note the 'Occupy Movement' that made headlines for several months and ultimately accomplished absolutely NOTHING). If you want to change people's minds, appeal to their intellect, not their emotions. When action is called for, it must be well thought out and carefully planned, not a chaotic frenzy.

Hahaha, you think that having a shit-fit because the elevators are shut down (after a fire drill, ffs!) is comparable to something MLK would have done? That's hysterical.

There's a huge difference between being a passionate, articulated speaker and having a shitfit.

Elevators take time to reset if the fire alarm goes off, unless you have a disability that precludes it, use the stairs. If you do, they should have planned for you with a shelter in place option.
