Thanks for the pointer to the other thread. I did a quick search of the forums for things mentioning the Economist before I posted, but I seem to have missed it.

I'd thought that the other was more interesting in the short run; the Economist is supposedly an influential paper (I wouldn't be completely surprised, given who shows up in their letters section), so it may be that you won't be turned away from a school or job in the future because of a wariness of uncertainty of the part of the person who has to make the decision. That would be nice.
