I like in the state of kentucky which as most people know is one of the worst states to live in if you have any kind of mental illness born or induced later in life otherwise. I have been demonized by religious people (One crazy old lady said my sould was on satans alter! LOL)
But thats another story for another day. A few months back I went to the DMV to inquire about a drivers license lerners booklet (Our library no longer stocks em' due to theft) When It was my turn to walk up to the desk (It was very full that day) the lady asked the usual questions such as if I had to wear glasses (I do...) and the usual stuff. But then she asked me if I had any Mental Disorders wich confused me somewhat. Not Thinking about it I told them truthfully I had aspergers disorder and the lady got up went in the back and came out a few moments later and leaned close and whispered that they could not give me a booklet and it was better if I did not learn to drive. I was promptly dismissed and I went home and asked my dad why. He said that recently my town's new police officers have stoped people for all kinds of crazy road antics and come to find out that all the people pulled over or arested had some kind of mental disorder. I later found out that most of the people later had their license's revoked. I though it was odd but I decided to just try another town that has a much larger population (Probably Lexington since its close). I still dunno what to think of this....All I know is that this town IS NOT a good place to live if you have autism of any sort. I cannot move as I don't draw any money of any sort. I feel lost....I guess thats why I vote democrat or 3rd party at every election.

My deepest sympathies. I know all the moonshine-swilling rednecks populate your area like flies at a landfill so it must really be torture for you out there. Still, you fly their flag, so it can't be all that bad.

Seriously, sounds awful man. I'm really thankful to live in the Pacific Northwest, even if it means near endless cloudy and rainy days.

I can understand how you jumped to conclusions because of the way some people have treated you, but the issue at the motor vehicle is not because it is a Republican state or a religious state.

Maryland, arguably one of the most liberal states in the union, the first state to pass by popular vote gay marriage, a state that is home to the only county in America without a single elected Republican official, guess what.

We require you to go before a medical review board if you have autism spectrum disorder.

http://www.mva.maryland.gov/Driver-Safe ... -board.htm

And while you mentioned the Pacific Northwest, while Oregon does not mention autism by name, it does mention Cognitive and Functional Impairments:

I would have told them that is private medical information between me and my doctors. None of their business.

I can see if they had a list of very specific ailments that can pose clear dangers to the public, and specifically asked if I had any of them. For example, we can all understand that if we need glasses to read road signs we ought to have to wear them while driving, but to ask such a blanket statement like that seems to me to be a clear violation of privacy.

I would have asked for a list, then only responded to what's on that list.

still never give a potentialy controversial info to any goverment and or law enforcement agency without legal counciltation.even if its just a legal aid para legal.

one doesnt need a full lawyer for inter govermental issues.like the dmv or SSI or eligabilty for benifits.a para legal that you have a legal right too is fine for that.non inter govermental issues like civil or criminal court one would need a lawyer but a para legal is fine for rule interperatations.
and your para legal will advise when a real lawyer is needed and will refere you to a lawyer who will represent you for free

It may be a crime to withhold that information from the DMV.

It wouldn't be a crime unless you lied outright. Withholding information by refusing to answer isn't lying, if you are clear that all you are doing is refusing to answer. The worst they could do is refuse you a license.

vermontsavant has a point. Legal representation would be a good idea if your DMV is giving you a hard time.

1.if your being denied something that greatly benifits you and losing it would be an extreme hardship, then whats a dinky pergury rap anyway that would likely result in expungement of record if probation completed successfully.martha stewart lied to the FBI and got 3 months in camp cupcake.how much punishment do you realy think you would get for lieing on a DMV application, really, think about it.

2.the DMV is to overworked and busy to verify the information you give them anyway.they will take what you put down as truth on face value unless you voluteer contrary info.i mean realy if the DMV could and had the time what careless driver would even have a drivers liscense

3.i own a limousine company and i know a bit about DOT,DMV law and how background checks and stuff realy works

I agree with other posted here that it is Illegal to lie to the DMV but to me its just as bad a crime to withhold info. Sucks really....

I don't have the time for such nonsense. I have no $$$ and there is no such thing as " free representation" in this town. I don't know where you live but here they don't do that unless you are really crippled and draw full SSI. My doctors are trying to dismiss that there is anything wrong with me. I will just wait a few more years and then try again in another town. If I cannot get one(Driver license) then so be it.....

According to the website, all you need to do is have your doctor certify that you are not medically disabled from driving, then reapply. No need to wait a few years unless your doctor says you need to wait a few years.
