ASD picture book... what do you think?

Hi all, was not sure where to put this one, and thought it could go here.

I recently ordered a picture book for my library called 'Anthony Best' by Davene Fahy that I cannot recommend without reservations. I had read some favorable comments on it. Yet, I found it overly negative from the start, when his kind friend lets the reader in on the fact that Anthony Best is not always the best boy in the world, as he claims to be. While the friend explains Anthony's odd behavior to other kids, his lone good quality, his ability to play the piano, is left til the end. I feel that that is too long of a wait.

That is my two cents.

It is also overly didactic. The only way that I see that this book could be used positively is to exemplify the kindness in his friend.

Has anyone else here read this one?

The only feeling I felt was disappointed, as I had been looking forward to its appearance on my 'new books' shelf.

I take it this is a picture book about Autism or Aspergers?

My two cents: I feel that of the few children's books about autism, many are made by people who've known someone with autism, as opposed to having it themselves. I've never much cared for those, as they all tend toward pitying the book's autistic character.
I wish a few more where the author is themselves autistic would get published.
