That is ABSOLUTELY WRONG! If the boy truly is with autism, and he punched for personal space invasion, it is a reflex and not an act of violence. Although I have always tried to control it, I cannot help it if someone comes up and taps me on the shoulder from behind... They're going to get my elbow in the ribs without my control. If someone were to try to grab or restrain me, I would stop them physically, and that's not something I can control. THEY can control if though... All it takes is to announce and explain first!! !! Then I'm OK with it. People just don't understand. I felt bad when I shoved a fireman who tried to escort me to sit on a bench to look at a minor injury I had from a fall from a roof, and that was before I knew about my place on the spectrum. I apologized profusely, but I also knew I could not have stopped myself in time from shoving him. It happened too fast.

My thoughts exactly. Once, when my maternal grandmother had tapped my leg, in passing, I about kicked her into next week.

It was simply an act of automatic reflex. I actually adored my grandmother, and would have never deliberately lashed out at her. We aspies just have hypersensitive nerves sometimes.
