atments.

1. Who would want to be in the same room with or please a mean person like an ABA therapist who never shows affection unless the kid does what the “therapist” wants. This is less of a motivation to do as one is told.

2. It is-- horrible-- to hold hostage a person's God-given rights such as food, water, sleep, access to a restroom, and genuine affection “until the child undergoing ABA therapy is 'good'” and does what they are told. What is the point of life without things like love, respect, affection? Take that away and you have a “well-behaved” child, but they'll have nothing. So the treatment isn't good for them.

3. A person has worth no matter what. Even just being onseself, to someone who loves them, is an act that is precious and good. Therefore, the autistic child has some rights that they shouldn't have to earn, or rather, have earned just by being themselves. The right to be shown genuine affection is one of those things.

4. The very things you are withholding and using as rewards for the kid if they're “good” are often things that the kid needs to be “good” in the first place: food, sleep, even genuine affection.

5. Being doped up for one's own safety is better than living for years in active fear of punishment.

6. There is more to life than conformity.

7. Sometimes a behavior a child has, like stimming, is needed for their survival.

8. Nobody should be punished for something that they can't stop themselves from doing, or that they don't know why they shouldn't be doing, or that they don't know they're doing.

Here is the perspective of a FORMER ABA certified therapist. It also includes a list a\of wonderful links as to why ABA is wrong from so many actual autistics.

A really good read!
