So a few minutes ago they who must not be named showed a commercial on TV. It was from the perception of a baby with the parents asking or saying things like "maybe we're not stimulating him enough", "maybe it is just a phase", and "maybe he can't hear us" among other things. From my interpretation, it basically gave the idea that autistic children don't act like they are part of a family and are unresponsive to stimuli, and made it sound like it is a serious life-threatening disease (big surprise). In a nutshell, it was fear-mongering. :x

P.S. apparently this came out a couple of years ago, according to when this video was posted, which surprised me considering this is the first time I've seen this one.

IMO this is a decent commercial to spread awareness and get kids diagnosed.

You can see from my avatar what I think of the organization that produced this commercial. Dispite this I do not interpret it as as the OP does. The way I interpret it is that they are saying do not misinterpret autistic traits. "Maybe it's a phase" is the exact opposite of the lifetime condition autism is, same idea with not stimulating him enough when autism involves overstimulation. IMHO this is a really good commercial.

I'm not a big fan of A$ but this commercial wasn't bad in my opinion.

I hate them. With a purple meltdown passion.

But, considering that that particular ad makes no mention of Horrors, I have no complaints.

I'm not against diagnosis, intervention, or help as such.

Just against demonization, and interventions and "help" that are punitive or so repressive as to lead to deep-seated self-hate and burnout.
