It really does look like he matches parts (or all) of the stereotype.

Was he the first person like this on TV?

I am sick to death of the stereotype. If you've seen one aspie, you've only seen one aspie. I will not be wearing pointy ears any time soon unless I'm dressed as one of Santa's cheerful little elves. :P

I'm not sure if he was the first on TV, but he was the first of many to come in Star Trek (Data, 7 of 9, et al).

Interesting that Star Wars, which is more about drama and social dynamics, didn't have an Aspie. Probably also why I've always considered Star Wars ridiculous and juvenile.

Star Wars is basically a typical high fantasy story, it just has a superficially sci-fi setting. Not really comparable to Star Trek beyond the name.

Starwars was to good to be made into a campy low budget tv space western. :P

Yes, he does act out the stereo to point, but in pretty muted way given that there are plenty of hfa and aspie people that do act like that and his behavior is not over exaggerated too far. Plus he is a character with a lot of depth that does develop deep emotional ties. I think he is a far better media representation of us then say sheldon cooper.

I agree that Spock has a lot more depth than most stereotypes. He's my favourite Trek character along with Janeway, Data, and Seven of Nine. I think it may have something to do with the fact that Spock is an alien looking into a world that is weird and alien to him, and how he is baffled by humankind's peculiarity.

Not bad for 1966-1968. I did relate but of of course had no idea why.

I've identified with Spock as a child and a teenager.

I identify with Data a lot more because he seems less grounded and more displaced than Spock. Less sure of himself and more childlike.

Data loves cats, and I do, too! :cat:

Spock was one of my favorite characters, but when Data and Worf were introduced, Data became my favorite, with Worf a close second.

If I could have transformed myself into a Klingon version of Data, I probably would have.

I can't even believe I am confessing to this, even to an online community, under an alias. Wow.

My favorite part about Spock was the confusion/tension with McCoy and Kirk. It cracked me up and gave me hope.

LOL, yes, hope for a world where differences could be solved with humor and good spirit.
