Let's discuss the San Bernadino tragedy as it relates to " us " , given that it happened at a developmental disabilities center and , when I listened to the initial cable news (MS/NBC) coverage of it I heard that , of the people killed , several were officially described as developmentally disabled , even if that was not the killers' main idea , to go after D-D people .
Maybe the " main " line on this covers it , but I believe it's gone on to other things .

They attacked what they knew. Since Fayeed worked for the county health department he knew that department would be holding a party creating a "soft target" and when and where it would occur. This complies with ISIS videos which has urged supporters to stop coming to the Mid East and attack in place.

As far as we are concerned it is going to make employers even more reluctant to hire somebody who is different and not a team player. Fayeed's sister said on the evening news he was introverted.

...Nice to get a response ~ To-day''s San Francisco Chronicle/SF Gate (they're paywalled?? so go link to it yourselves) , in it's latest coverage , has brief profiles of all the murder victims , two of them are written of in such a way that suggests that the newspaper is carefully not saying that they were AS/DD .

I'd like to think the actual target was somewhat chosen at random, in the way ASPartOfMe describes.
It was not like they were deliberately goong for Aspies, thinking that THAT would instill particular fear or so, but much rather that attacking a facility like this shows how they have no mercy, like "what's worse than blowing up a kindergarten?"

Seems that the center was only a rented room for the Health Department's Christmas party.

Seems that Farook was targeting his co-workers, some of whom had apparently disagreed with him on religious topics.

There is a theory that the shootings were Malik's idea, but she has been described as trsditional and subservient.

They went after a soft target. If disability is being specifically targeted, it's only because disabled people are de facto a soft target.

The ones you need to worry about hate and persecution from aren't the looneys with guns. They hate you, but not because of disability in particular. They hate you because you're not under their thumb. Because you're a woman in pants, a man without a beard, not an ultraconservative Muslim (Christian, Jew, etc.).

The ones you need to worry about disability-based discrimination from, unfortunately, is society in general. Until it became CLEAR that this was an act of Islamic Dominionist terrorism, CNN et al were trying very, very hard to frame it up as another mentally ill/developmentally disabled shooter. What that tells me is that it's more socially acceptable to "blame the 'tards and crazies" than to consider blaming those who have an avowed mission to destroy everyone who doesn't see the world their way.

THAT scares the crap out of me.

...Has it been established whether any one of the murdered were officially " among us " ? Or their relatives/close friends ? A gay paper here in San Francisco front-paged that an out gay man ~ who had saved others before being killed , himself ~ was one of the murdered , as far as " special interests " went .

As I see it, there's plenty of crap-scaring to go around.
