so, i been to this hate group's (autism $peaks) facebook page and once again i thought about gagging , then i had seen the reviews, most of them was of curbie swines who are either ignorant or just hates us, but they where a few brave autistics who gave this terror group one star and said some great things against this anti - autistic corporation and it gave me an idea.

operation three stars = every self respecting autistic will comment negativly and give autism $peaks one star and our starting goal will be to set this hate group to three star facebook rating and people will also read our reviews.

so what are you guys thing ?

I thing it's fine as long as it doesn't take too much time and I think it's fine for regular facebook users of which I'm not one. Now, what I've observed during my time with peace groups, I don't want most of my efforts to be pissed away through in-fighting or left fighting which can happen.

So-called Autism $peaks (cough, cough)* is a large, almost corporate-like entity where the need to fund-raise in order to maintain offices and payroll seemingly swamps everything else.

And this can happen to any group, even to groups we might later form. The lesson I draw from this is to be slow to open offices or hire paid staff, until we really need it, and maybe be open to intermediate things like renting space from a local restaurant during afternoon hours which is far, far cheaper than opening a whole office on our own.

* And PS, what's wrong with communicating through sign language or typing on a laptop? Not a thing that I see!

how exactly do give a group x number of stars? have never come across that function before.

am up for educating them,but bet will get the same treatment had got off their supporters on their very first forum,they denied the autism of mine because aparently those of us diagnosed with severe autism [and still such as adults] aint severely autistic unless we are like their young child, AKA unable to use a keyboard or the internet to communicate.
they are dangerously delusional and ignorant.

autism speaks is the 21st century word for "Leatrile"

i know what you are feeling, in israhell there are a hate group similar to autism $peaks called ALUT which says every autistic who able to use a keyboard is a fraud. it is just horrible how NTs can be dangerously stupid and ignorant enough to stop an autistic from getting the right treatmant.

The worst thing is that both Autism Speaks and ALUT now have consultative status with the United Nations and are spreading this message to other countries worldwide.

agreed with every thing you said, it is horrible that such hate groups are representing "us" on the UN . i think that the only autistic related organisations who need to serve in the un are those who run by autistics and for autistics, time for a big change

What does "leatrile" mean? did you you mean "laetrile", which is a poison that was once thought to be a cure for cancer?

Like really. I would be 100% a different person if I was "cured" of autism. My entire personality would change. I'm just not sure if I could handle it, but I'm sure many people, including myself, would really like an idealistic solution for repairing the noted "gray-matter" in our brains that generates autism-like traits.

It would require surgery below the cerebral cortex. There is no cure for autism without literal brain surgery.

Not really. It's hard to understand how Autism Speaks ever got consultative status in the first place, since this is meant for non-governmental organizations and one of the criteria is that they must have a democratically elected leadership structure. As far as I can tell, Autism Speaks is a corporation (Autism Speaks Inc.), without members and without elected leadership. It is not an NGO. But the wife of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has taken an interest in autism and opened them many doors. There's now a whole range of first ladies of UN members states involved and most importantly the daughter of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Bangladesh and Qatar seem to be the nations Autism Speaks works most closely with at the UN. Interestingly, both these nations and their governments have very shaky human rights records.

thats disturbing, that such hate groups can even speak in the UN. it is as if the KKK was in the un disscussing about black people rights in africa. i is just disgusting that corporations like autism $peaks have a say in the UN.
