Autism has only *not* been attributed to demonic possession or other moral failings or somebody's "sin" for maybe a hundred years in western culture. Fifty years in some U.S. States. Many non-western cultures still believe that anyone who is atypical is likewise a sign of some sort of evil done by someone, somewhere.
So really, all he's doing is feeding into something that has not completely left our larger social memory.
This is why as an autistic I am convinced that the promotion of a basic understanding and acceptance of critical thinking and a basic science education is so important.
