She's being honest. I read the whole letter. It's from a mother who has been on a path, a journey to know and to love her son for who he is, not for who she expected or wanted him to be.

I agree the way the premise is presented is dumb (ie "I wanted to love you right away, but you weren't what I expected so I didn't love you"), but I get that she's saying that she's now loving him for who he is which is more than many parents of NT children can honestly say... :?

She said she wished he was not autistic, that is not loving him for who he is. She still has more internal work to do.

^ I agree that she has more work to do. The end of the letter is hopeful that she'll get there.

Parenting an autistic child is hard...this woman appears to have lost it...there are also things I wish I did differently in hindsight...there's no manual for new parents
