Mickey Rowe to appear on PBS’s “American Read”

Actor Mickey Rowe, who made history last year as the first actor with autism to play the lead character (Christopher, who is diagnosed with autism) in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, will appear on PBS’ The Great American Read May 22 at 8PM ET.

As part of their new nationwide program, PBS introduces different books and encourages viewers to read them. On his episode, Rowe will promote the novel that inspired the play of the same name as he takes audiences around Seattle and inside the ACT Theatre.

Additionally, he is working on a new solo show titled The Fool.

“‘Fool‘ was historically a derogatory word for people with developmental disabilities,” says Rowe. But the actor reclaims the term in a show that combines clowning, juggling, Shakespearean monologues, and more. The Fool will be part of Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Green Show, which runs June 15–October 14, 2018. Rowe will perform August 19.

Rowe also hopes the show will make a statement for those on the autism spectrum that there are many opportunities out there for them, including the arts.
