I came across a very interesting online book:

Autistic Community and the Neurodiversity Movement: Stories from the Frontline, an anthology edited by Steven K. Kapp.

I was particularly interested to read the first chapter, Historicizing Jim Sinclair’s “Don’t Mourn for Us”: A Cultural and Intellectual History of Neurodiversity’s First Manifesto by Sarah Pripas-Kapit. The groundbreaking 1993 article it discusses, Jim Sinclair’s “Don’t Mourn for Us”, can be found here. For more about the historical background, see Jim Sinclair's history of Autism Network International.

Thank you for that.
I found the chapter by John Elder Robison on his time advising Autism Speaks very interesting also.
